How u guys doin my name is Roberto and i underwent gastric sleeve surgery on 3-9-11 my highest weight was 320lbs and the day of surgey i was 310lbs. Today is 6 days post op and i am down to 301lbs. I am currently on the liquid diet and i have to say i am having a tough time eating the same thing every day and theres still another 8 days of the liquid diet left!! My doctor tells me that it will get better as i progress to whole foods but right now im battling my mental state of mind watching my family and friends eat, seeing commercials and just generally thinking about great food and its been pretty difficult for me. I am optimistic that things will get better but right now things are brutal for me and ive even had some regret running through my mind about what ive done. If theres anyone out there that have went through what im going through please feel free to give me any advice on whats happening now and if things will get better. THANKS alot any help will b appreciated

Hi and welcome!! All I can say is that it gets better before you know it. The liquid phase is so boring... are you on full liquids? And what are you eating? I'm sure that collectively we can help you jazz things up a bit! :)

If you have a DVR, now would be an excellent time to use it -- to blip past all those food adverts! No sense torturing yourself. When you get onto more "real" foods, you will already feel much better. Good luck!

Nope, that doesn't sound too fun.

With all the sweetness you get those first few weeks, from the Protein drinks, Jello, popsicles, etc., what really got me through were the creamed Soups. They're not something you're going to want to have much of once you get more into regular foods, but this early out you're SO calorie-restricted that they won't slow you down (the carbs, sodium, etc). Cream of mushroom, chicken, etc... just make sure you strain them to get the chunks out.

My absolute saving grace was Tomato Soup. A little Tomato Soup with a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt (an excellent substitute for sour cream) was heaven for me at the end of the day, after drinking all that sweet stuff all day long! A couple of days before my pureed stage, I'd sprinkle a little bit of shredded cheese on the top and let it melt.

At this stage you can also have yogurt. Your best bet is plain Greek (Fage, Oikos), sweetened yourself with whatever you can think of. Some people mix sugar-free jelly in there (probably not jam at this stage, don't want seeds or anything). My favorite thing was, and is, just some vanilla extract and either Splenda or Truvia. If you have Kroger stores where you live, they have a house brand called Carbmaster which is also an excellent choice... high Protein, low cal, very low carb (3 grams).

That's about all I can remember at the moment! I know the stages seem to last forever, but in a few weeks you'll probably be nervous and think "already?" when it's time to add whole foods back in. Then you can get really creative!

How much of the Soup? Does it go by the same 2oz rule as the yogurt, or can you have more?

But dude I am right there with ya... same feelings of regret and depression even though I have dropped 30# in the last three weeks between the pre-op diet and the sleeve. I was even sleeved the same day.

Hope it gets better soon.

I am sooo glad that I was by myself thru the liquid stage and that I didn't have to smell or watch food being eaten! I did go out to lunch a few times on the pureed stage and brought baby food to eat while my companions enjoyed theirs. Theirs looked good and I made a mental note to put it on my to-eat list when I could BUT the small sacrifices leading to a lifetime tool is extremely well worth it!!! Hang in!

The second week is better as you can add lots of other liquids. smoothies, Soups, yogurt, juices, etc. By day 11 I started to add some cottage cheese, laughing cow cheese, some blended food. It was fine. Soon you will be over the hard phase and enjoying your new slimer body. :D

Cook veggies in the broth and then purée in the blender. Things taste so much better if you can do that. I also had those same feelings. I was bordering on angry that I couldn't eat. But it really does get better. My Dave meal right now ( on full liquids ) is cook carrots, celery, onion (any other veg you like ) in broth til fully fully cooked. Add cooked chicken then throw it all in the blender and purée til totally smooth. You can add a touch of taco seasoning or any other herbs to change it up a bit. Really yummy, plus extra protien from the cooked chicken.

My husband was sleeved on 3-16 and is really having a hard time. He is battling the mental state as well. He is depressed and is beating himself up for not being able to lose weight without surgery. He is also feeling that he will never be able to eat again and that everything is going to change. I have read some of the posts to him to let him know that he is not alone.

as hard as it may be right now tell em to hang in there the days after surgery drag but tell him that things will get easier and that he'll feel better as he watches the weight fall off and as he progresses to normal food. lots of luck to him

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
