4 days post op and teeth are turning grey and translucent

Recommended Posts

I woke up today and noticed that my 2 front teeth on top and 4 front teeth on bottom are turning grey and translucent. Obviously incredibly disheartening. Has anyone heard of this? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix it and prevent it in the future?

Hmmm... that's very interesting. I haven't seen anything like this posted before but I had a slightly similar issue immediately post op myself. I had a Crown on my tooth and a week after surgery it started having the worst pain ever!! I had to go to the dentist and have the endodontist do a root canal on it. He filled in the tooth where he drilled through and now I have a white spot on my crown... LOL

My personal opinion is that I think I was slightly malnourished then due to the liquids only and somehow ended up killing my root in my tooth.

I am no medical professional so I'm not absolutely positive this is true, it's my own speculation. I just found it interesting that it was only a week later when before I hadn't had *any* pain there at all.

Good luck!!

I have been researching quite a bit and so far have come up with 2 possible causes. One is Calcium deficiency and the other is that certain antibiotics can cause this to happen. Lord knows I was being hit with more antibiotics than I thought was possible for 48 hours following op.

Unfortunately, I can find NO WHERE that explains how to fix.

The fix might be a simple answer, but most like it is not. Taking a calcium supplement (if your levels are low) can actually make white streaks on the teeth, so try drinking more milk or eating milk products. Whitening your teeth (professionally or an at home kit) can have sketchy outcomes, and leave your teeth super sensitive. A dentist can help you decide which whitening product will work for you based on the amount / severity of the blue-grey discoloration. Lastly, the most expensive fix is to get porcelain veneers ($$$).

Was the antibiotic Tetracycline? If so, that is a known antibiotic that causes the blue-grey discoloration.

Good luck with whatever path you choose.

The bad thing is, if she is only 4 days post op, most doctors have you on Clear Liquids for at least 10 days, so no milk products.sad.gif

There is no quick fix, so it won't matter if she starts the Calcium supplements / milk products now or later. It will take a while to build the calcium back up. The Tetracycline discoloration is harder to fix. Personally, I would get professional whitening now and start the supplements as soon as she hits the liquid/shake phase. I meant to cover that and spaced it :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
