Peronella 2 Posted March 14, 2011 Am I the only one who is having incredibly vivid food dreams lately? Right before surgery, I had several which were so realistic that I woke up almost tasting what I had dreamt. But then, they went away. No food dreams for months! Now, I am waking up feeling guilty, because it FEELS like I have eaten the wrong things and in huge quantities. Last night, for instance, it was a whole, large, highly decorated ice-cream cake. The night before; bags and bags of M&Ms. The dreams themselves are harmless, I suppose. It is the residual feeling of guilt that bothers me. Anyone else?? bilka 6 Posted March 14, 2011 I used to dream about food every time I was on a diet (half of my life, then!)... I always woke up feeling guilty for all I "ate". Right now I am not having those dreams anymore, just lots of nightmares with shootings, blood, the end of the world and other ridiculous stuff...
vickie 3 Posted March 14, 2011 Don't feel guilty. Maybe the dream is just to give you a freebe. A way to eat without the guilt of actually eating it. Don't feel guilty for doing the right thing and dreaming the wrong. A dream is just a dream. Take it as a freebe and keep up the good work.
SarahS 13 Posted March 14, 2011 How far out from surgery are you? I had dreams about food for a few months post-op and my NUT told me it was totally normal! I would dream I was eating tacos (my fav) or cakes and Cookies and I was shoving my face full of stuff and in my dreams I would then freak out because I was like, oh crap, I had surgery, this is going to hurt! I had several dreams, and I too woke up thinking I really ate, until a while later that I realized it is a dream. I think it may pass for you! Just try to not let it bother you, if that is possible! aaa 3 Posted April 5, 2011 Oh my gosh, I've been having crazy food dreams too over the last month or so. Mainly mine are about eating large quantities of all the wrong things and then remembering I'm sleeved, but being surprised how much I can fit in. Then I have massive guilt about it and get depressed that I've stretched out and ruined my sleeve forever. All in a dream too! Amazing the emotions you can feel. The dream food weirdly always tastes gross too. I'm always so relieved to wake up and realise I'm still on the right track.
Amanda131 214 Posted April 6, 2011 OMG- I had those same crazy dreams when I was in the hospital and the week after surgery. I would be eating wonderful, decadent stuff and then remember I had the surgery and freak out trying to figure out how in the hell I was going to get that out of me (I HATE throwing up- haven't done it in 12 years)! In one crazy, hydrocodone laced dream the meal burst out of my stomach in a scene reminiscent of Aliens. Pretty sure that dream alone was responsible for me quitting the pain meds. myrori 55 Posted April 7, 2011 I had 2 food dreams I clearly remember. The first was sometime after surgery,, I don't remember details except for plates of food coming at me. The second was about 10 days post op, I actually woke up making chewing motions with my mouth. It is our subconscious mouning the loss of food and the change. Think of it as one last plea from our brain to go back to to comfort of the past. Dreams are just one more way we work out our problems.
Hawaii50 4 Posted April 7, 2011 Oh yeah! My dream last night was one of my girlfriends making sandwiches and was so alarmed and pissed that I wasn't eating she actually started charging me with some roast beef and cheddar in slow motion, right before the beef hit me in the face....I woke up, thank god! I think I feel more differently about my friend than the food now. haha! These kind of dreams happened to me for months when I quit smoking, it's crazy how real they make you feel, I would always ask my husband if I smoked the night before, and he would re-assure me time and time again. I never have them anymore, it's been 2.5 yrs. Hopefully the food dreams will subside too.
