How hard is being on only clear liquids?

Recommended Posts

What was it like to have NO food for ten days after surgery? Did you go crazy not being able to eat? Were you starving and tempted to just say forget it and risk death to have a sandwich? Or did you not notice your hunger or any cravings for food?

Clear liquids were a bit tough because I got sick of broth but it only lasted a few days. Full liquids was not hard at all! There is so much you can have and any sort of cream Soups. I did have a hard time getting all my Protein in but I was not craving things that bad. I was too afraid to cheat! I could easily feel that I was healing because when I would eat anything even slightly thick (like jello), I got an uncolfortable feeling so I backed off and went back to Soups and smoothies.

Toward the end of the liquid phase I could not wait to start mushies and had all these great recipes lined up but ended up living on smoothies, shakes, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. I was completely happy and satisfied with this and I'm still eating all of those things - just adding something new here and there. I'm in my 6th week and there isn't much I can't eat but I haven't tried steak yet.

I was sleeved a week ago, so i'm on the Clear Liquids phase. I am sick to death of the clear liquids, since thats basically all I had for 2 weeks before surgery too. My plan says I'm supposed to be on clears for 2 weeks post-op, but I'm doing well enough that I think i'm going to ask my surgeon if I can advance to full liquids - my appointment is tomorrow (tuesday).

Thanks to the clear flavored Isopure Protein drinks, I've been able to get in my 40 grams of Protein, and all the Water and crystal lite I need. Other than that, i've got my Vitamins and pepcid. Since I hate sweet foods, the jello/popsicles haven't helped with my craving for food, but I did get a trick from 2bslimkim, which is to go to a chinese place and get wonton Soup, and strain it out. It's been heavenly. I've done the same thing with Campbell's chicken Soup too, which was a childhood favorite of mine.

I think only suck really for about 3 days..It is hard don't get me wrong, but you have to weigh why you are doing the surgery and if it for the right reasons you will have no problems doing it.

I've have 4 more days of fluids till I can move to pureed. I am excited, not because I've been hungry, but just to see how things go. To see if the new stomach works, I don't know what my thought process is really. I haven't had an appetite yet so it is just eating to live right now. I do not like the Protein stuff in any form I've tried so doing that is like a chore. I can't wait to have to not do that to get all my protein in. And I am excited to have some warm mashed potatoes!!! You'll do fine if you keep focused on why we all are going through this. Best of luck.

I am 1 week post op and have been on full liquids for 4 days. Today is day 5 of 12 until I can go to pureed foods. I agree it is very hard and I would love to take a bite of something biggrin.gif but haven't and won't. I am looking forward to having mashed potatoes this time next week. I do not like the Protein Shakes either so I have been trying to get my Protein in through greek yogurt. Yes I have felt hungry especially when my family is having "regular" meals like chicken parm or pizza, etc...I keep thinking to myself that I've had plenty of those foods which got me into this situation. Best of luck to you!

Thankfully my doctor starts his patiants back on liquids "anything that can fit through a straw" the day after surgery.. I never had to worry about clear liquids. However I can tell you from my experience I didn't feel like eating/drinking much of anything. I did a lot of sleeping the first few days and then a lot of walking "as much as I could without getting worn out" The hardest part was probably the drain I had...

See I can have full liquids and the thought of anything thicker than milk terrifies me. I am scared to eat and it's everything I can do to get my liquids in. Milk is heavenly though. Ice cold it feels wonderful going down. I was sleeved on Wednesday.

I just got really really sick of everything I was allowed to have. To this day, the thought of Jello makes me sick. It isn't easy, but it goes by quick. It is better to let your stomach heal so you don't have problems further down the road. We all survive it somehow!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
