Man! This is tough! I am 2 weeks post-op as of tomorrow. My weight is quickly dropping, clothes are already falling off but I am struggling.

I am on full liquids still but am not able to get much of anything other than Water and the occational greek yogurt down. I'm really feeling the affects of it right now too. My body is just very worn down. I feel nauseaous most of the time, the idea of Jello and pudding even makes me feel sick now. I can't tolerate the taste of cream Soups either. Protein drinks are a big no for my sleeve too. Today I did try a little instant mashed potatoes with gravy, maybe an 1/8 of a cup if that (had a few WLS friends suggest it to at least get something in) and still 4 hours later I have this feeling of fullness. My stomach has been rumbling non-stop for a week and its really annoying.

I'm just not sure what to do or think, or if I am just being a whiney baby and need to suck it up. I know the first few weeks are the hardest but I was really hoping I could at least get some Soups down or something.

Hey,

Don't worry... you'll be fine! The first few weeks are the hardest, no question. You must make sure that you get your fluids in and rest. Your body is just wondering what the hell has happened to it and needs time for adjustment.

TLC and Water are the way forward for the short term ... good luck! =]

Hello Sasicas!! Congrats on your new tiny stomach. You two over time will become very acquainted with each other. In time... It's going to take a little bit of time and effort before you're able to figure out exactly what your stomach can tolerate and what it can't. Also, in the very beginning you will have trials and errors. Those errors will eventually turn into nothing more than a blip on the radar down the line. What I mean is that, you may not be able to tolerate something today, but maybe in a few weeks it will go down fine.

Do not worry!! We are here for you and wish you well. The first month is absolutely hands down the toughest you will do. But, that being a trade in for a lifetime of being free from over eating is well worth it. Hang in there and time passes, pounds drop, and you will get to feeling better and better every day.

Hugs!!!

Thank you ladies, I really appreciate the support.

I knew this would be tough but I dont quite think I was prepared for the emotional part of it too. Tonight I totally broke down over feeling crappy, not being able to eat and being annoyed that I couldn't just lose the weight on my own and having to resort to surgery. Just a total breakdown. thankfully my husband has been really great helping me get through this.

I really hope the next few weeks move quickly so I can start feeling human again...

OK.... i'm going to do a little tough love. I had my surgery the same day you did and i'm feeling great and having no problems getting the liquid diet i'm supposed to eat down.

While this may just be your body getting use to the sleeve it also may be a sign of a minor complication. I think I would call my surgeons office first thing tomorrow. I'm not trying to worry you.... it's just better to be safe than sorry and non of use on this site (well most of us) are qualified to offer medical advice. If you are not getting the appropriate amounts of nutrition your body needs, you may need to seek your Dr.'s advice.

Getting appropriate Protein amounts and Vitamins is crucial to your healing process and if you are not getting that down it is going to slow your healing. I'm concerned that you are still having issue and that things are not slowly starting to progress. I'm able to get all my liquids and more in which includes more than 60 grams per day of Protein via Protein shakes,

I went back to work full time at day 7 and i've even successfully gone out to several restaurants ordering either Tortilla Soup broth or creamed Soup and iced tea.

Please please if you continue to have issue call your Dr. while it may just be your body it also my be a symptom of a minor issue your Dr. needs to know about.

I feel your pain. I hate the protien shakes!! I am in the 2 weeks liquid phase of this-Day 6 to be exact. I am not sure how to get the protien I need without drinking those damn shakes. Any suggestions that you have learned since this post?

I am day 6 also and I have no trouble with Water, clear broth (my favorite is Swanson's Vegetable in the can) and I can get in two Protein shakes. But I could only get one shake in on day 3 and 4 and did not get all my fluids up to 64 oz until today. You have to work up to the Fluid amount. I tried extra hard after feeling light headed on the morning of the 4th day. But I find now, at the end of the 6th day, I have so much more room than I did. I think there isn't much swelling inside anymore.

I am not a fan of the shakes. Too sweet. I got one that is chocolate Peanut Butter flavored and I add 1/4 cup coffee and then fill the rest w/ Water up to the top of Bullet blender cup and that makes it better somehow. Also I have a vanilla one that I put one spleda in and about 3/4 cup of frozen fruit - sometimes peaches, sometimes berries - and that tastes pretty good. The Bullet Blender blends it so thoroughly that there are no chunks at all. I get nauseated if I try to drink two of the flavors I bought - Pink Grapefruit & Cookies and Cream. Sounded good before surgery - sounds awful now. Just the smell of them disgusts me.

I am sure that each day you will see a bit of improvement. I don't know if I would eat the other food until I could get the liquid volume up. I tried Jello (which you would think would be just like water anyway) on day 3 and it filled me up so much I couldn't drink much more at all. It just sat like a stone in my stomach. Just keep trying to get the water or broth in at least.

Good luck to you - it will get better.

I am also 2 weeks post-sleeve, but I am on mushy foods now. I was very weak and had a very hard time with the liquids. I became very sick in the hospital after xray made me drink barium at full strength. So, I now have little tolerance for anything sweet. I haven't been able to drink my Protein shakes, Jello, or crystal light. The day I started eating mushy foods I began to feel better! I usually have a scrambled egg (only eat about 1/3), cottage cheese and peaches (sugar-free), Water and more water, applesauce, chicken broth or chicken Soup pureed in a Magic Bullet, yogurt (I can eat this!), thinly sliced meat such as chicken or turkey and I chew until my jaw hurts! Next weekend, my doctor said I can try cheese and potatoes and begin transitioning into phase 3, but slowly! I am very worried becasue I just can't stomach the shakes anymore. I have powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken soup and unflavored, but since my sleeve, I can't stomach these either!

The best advice I can give you is to hang in there and when you do finally get to have mushy foods, eat very slow. I give myself an hour and what is left, I throw away.

I am now having issues with heartburn, which started at the hospital. Dr gave me prilosec to try and I couldn't handle it. Then Nexium and still no luck. Hopefully, you will have more success with heartburn than I. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
