Recommended Posts

Hi,

I live in Abu Dhabi. Chris De Brutenne comes to the Emirates Hospital in Dubai two days each month. I am having a band "installed" by him in September. Check out the website for the hospital. Hope this helps.

My surgery went very smoothly. Dr. Debruyne is one of the top lap band surgeons. The nursing aftercare was also excellent. I feel like the postsurgery aftercare/patient ed at Emirates could be improved greatly. Not that it is "dangerous" in any way, just minimal. I was grateful that I had spent so much time educating myself so that I knew what to expect. I haven't had any problems other than the normal ones like being too tight or eating too fast, etc. I have lost over 90 pounds and am still losing so very pleased all in all. You are in good hands with Dr. Chris.

Hi

I was banded by CDB in Belgium in April 2006. Chris is one of the most experienced banding surgeons in Europe, as well as being a fab person, and has loads of UK patients. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I live in Doha, and am having Al Amadi hospital, Dr. Mohammed Al Amadi is doing the proceedure. It looks as if I am one of the few 'western' people he has done.

Hi All,

I live in Doha and had the surgery on the 10th. I didnt go to a private hospital, I did it through Hamad hospital in Al Khor. You will be referred to General surgery but the surgeon is a bariatric surgeon and quite skilled. He also treats you as a person and not as a patient and even gives out his mobile number for concerns.

I must say the care was first rate and would recommend a consultation with Dr. Hijran to anyone...... oh..... btw, I am north american :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
