Calling all May Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

I have not seen a thread on here as it may be too early for the May sleevers, but I thought I would start one since I have a May surgery date!

Anyone out there getting sleeved in May?

I will be having surgery on Tuesday May 24th at 10:30 A.M. with Midwest Bariatric Solutions in Theda Clark Medical Center Neenah Wisconsin. Super excited at this point! I know the nerves will come soon enough!

Calling all May sleevers! Lets start this journey together!

Hi there!

My name is Karen and I will be sleeved on May 10 at Forest Park in Dallas, by Dr. Nick Nicholson. Its coming up quickly, isn't it? Yet it feels like its been forever since I started this process. Waiting is the worst part, and this site is so helpful in the meantime!

Best of luck to you, Kara!

Karen

I started a thread awhile back down in the Monthly VSG support group section, but I'm thinking maybe no one goes there?

I'm having VSG on May 10th in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. (Having surgery ON my 46th birthday).

I don't have my date yet but talking to the head of the bariatric program, it should be middle May. I will know more next week at my next appointment. I'm from Baltimore, Maryland. I am finishing up my six month dieting requirement now. I am alternating between being so excited and can't wait for the surgery to actually being a bit scared and anxious about the surgery. Plus I'm scared that I will fail and this whole process and any pain I go through will be a moot point.

I know it will be even a bigger mistake not to try because although I've lost 43 pounds since starting the 6 month program, I really really need help with Portion Control. I am so excited!

I'm getting so excited as well.... also nervous! Its about 75% to 25% right now.... I know in about a month and half it will be more the opposite!

Some days I feel like I just don't know what to expect so I come on here and search blogs for hours.... other days..... I feel I can't possibly take in anything new.

I think I will go crazy before this surgery! ;)

Omgosh! This post made me so happy! I'm on my 3rd month of my 6 month fat camp and am desperately hoping for a June date (the AMAZING insurance gal at my surgeon's office says it's a possibility!) so to see May dates posted makes me realize that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Congrats to those of you with dates. Please keep us posted - I can't get enough info on this. :)

Wow... someone moved my thread? Confused.... as I was leaving a post and then it said it was deleted, then I found it down here in the monthy sleevers!

Anyway.... super excited for all of us with a May date! I'm glad we can go through this journey together!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
