I am only 2 1/2 weeks into this and my weight loss has slowed down (I know this is normal, but I really liked it when those numbers went down faster!!!). I won't be getting a fill until at least 8 weeks post surg., but I am curious - does the weight loss speed up again after the fill like it was right after surgery?? And I'm still having a bit of port pain - is this normal?? Thanks~!!

Hi Kataylee,

Weight loss is not contingent solely on getting a fill--by that I mean getting one doesn't necessarily mean that your loss will start up again right away. That is, of course, the goal, but it requires our participation to make it happen.

It is possible to get a fill, find you can't eat fast or much, find that what you do eat is causing discomfort, so you stick to soft foods and liquids. On a plan like that it's entirely possible to not lose weight. But that's obviously not playing the game the right way.

The idea of a fill is to create restriction so that one can't eat fast and doesn't need to eat much before feeling full. But this only works if we eat solid food, and not very much of that. If we cooperate and don't consume more calories than we can comfortably take in by eating solids, then YES, weight loss will start again. That is absolutely the idea.

I agree with Alexandra. It depends on what you eat. I do tend to find I lose the most weight right after a fill, and then it tapers off. It also depends on how restricted your fill is. With my 2nd, I didn't lose anything. My third, I lost the most.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
