My antibiotic right after surgery was in pill form. It was huge, and I could swallow it (easier then breaking it...tried that and it hurt...and way better than crushing it). I am 3 months out now and take call pills, and can swallow a few at a time. Sometimes I get an upset stomach, but it only last a little while. I would try taking just one and see how it feels...

I am sure you'll be just fine if you start now! I started taking my pills at about two weeks post op and never had a single problem (other than a little nausea if I took my Vitamins before eating) though I admit that I never liked taking the Biotin pills because of the capsules.

I got the OK to start swallowing pills at my two week followup earlier this week. I swallow the little ones whole and cut the bigger one in half. You may want to talk to your primary physician, not your surgeon about what pills to take and what not to. There are certain things your doc may not want you to take after surgery. (For instance, any diuretics for blood pressure). Also, some things aren't needed (like statins for cholesterol).

You may want to drink a few sips of something warm (tea, broth) before swallowing a pill then follow it with a sip or two of liquid. Wait a few minutes between pills, then repeat the process above.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
