 Hi All,

I am getting banded July 8th and at the same time starting training for a half marathon...I know I am crazy...lifelong dream of my dad's!!!!

Anyway, I am needing to purchase really good shoes and was wondering if anyone had input on a comfortable walking/running shoe for heavier people. I would love feedback! Thanks

There are running stores that can fit you for shoes. My husband is banded and is training for a marathon. He went to "Run On" here is Dallas. They made him run on a treadmill and then run a little on the ground so they could watch the impact points on his feet and then recommended the shoes that would work the best. I am sure there are running store in your area. They often sponsor marathon races. Good luck on your marathon! My boss just ran Comrades in South Africa last Friday. It is a 60 mile marathon. Can you imagine that?

You should really find the best shoe for your foot.

I wore my pair of Asics into the ground. I loved them because they were squishy, lightweight, and much wider in the toe area than Nikes.

I went to playmakers shoe store in Lansing, MI and they looked at my feet and the way I stood etc and put me in some Brooks Beasts tennis shoes and they are the best tennis shoes EVER!!!

Cool Beans on the marathon but be careful not to exercise until your doctor gives you clearance to exercise. Thats usually 6-8 weeks after surgery.

I wear Nike's FREE shoes - they move with your foot as if you were barefoot.

I just bought a second pair this morning - they can be as much as $90 a pair - and I got my first pair at the Nike outlet store $60 - then I a second pair today at 24 Hour Fitness, for $25 !!!!!!!!!

I am happy with them. They are light weight and like I said, the soles are split so that your feet feel barefoot.

I had a lot of ankle problems and consulted several sports medicine specialists and physiotherapists and podiatrists. Two things I was told consistently by all these specialists:

1) Most people who run regularly will need orthotics even if they dont think they do (I have some fabulously expensive orthotics now of course)

and

2) stay away from Nike shoes, they're just fashion shoes and nothing they make is good enough for regular running, Brooks and Asics shoes are the ones to go for.

I've always loved brooks shoes and they serve me really well. But I truly couldnt run without orthotics. I dont know how true it is about Nikes either by the way, but I must have been told that on 10 separate occasions by 10 separate professionals.

Any top notch sports shoe store will be able to fit you properly. Don't be afraid to spend well over $100. IT is worth it. These usually won't be chains... like champs. footlocker, etc....

I have a shoe question. I walk on the treadmill at a pretty good clip (3.5 to 4.0/hr) and I have the incline up on 5 and work it to 7. I recently had a sore big toe, on the top of it by my nail it was red and sore, this was like this for several months. At a recent doc appt, not my personal doc, was fitted in that day this doctor told me it looked like the start of a blister so I should buy shoes a half size larger for walking on the treadmill. Do any of you do that? Have you heard of such a thing? Would my foot slide more in a larger shoe? any help?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
