sample post op diet

ohh quantity varies with each person. So it is hard to say I have just moved to mushies and can only each 2oz of chili in one sitting (sitting takes me almost half hour to eat it). I have heard others can tolerate up to 4 oz. It really depends on swelling how much is still there and length of stomach.

I still have to have at least one Protein shake a day to meet my Protein intake. As I progress through to more solid foods I will hopefully get all my protein from food and only a shake once in awhle. I could be dreaming but I am hopeful.

Here is mine (I'm approx. 14 weeks out).

B - Scrambled or boiled egg (one egg white only)

L - 4 oz. grilled chicken or shrimp (beef once or twice a week)

snack 1- 1 oz nuts (love pistachios)

Snack 2 - A fruit or one whole wheat toast with cheese or hummus

D - 4 oz. grilled chicken or shrimp

I usually keep my daily input to 500-600 calories, Protein - 60-70 grams, carbs and fats to under 30 grams.

Sam,

how do you prepare your beef?!? I was so worried about never being able to taste steak again... Even a bite would make me happy :)

Is there anything that you definitely do not eat because it caused issues with your stomach? I know everyone is different, but knowing what causes issues for others will make me more cautious!

Thanks!

I usually have filet mignon. My wife is the 'Top Chef' in the house but I know she marinates it overnight (in yogurt and spices) and then cooks it in a non stick pan (without any oil).

I can eat pretty much anything now. Some items bothered me the first time I had them (bread, beef) but nothing too serious and then over time I had no problem with them. I've never tried any soda, sweets or heavily fried stuff after the operation so I can't speak to those.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
