So this is the second time I've been sick (weekish long) in the last 2 months. Has anyone else become more sickly after having surgery?

I'm hoping that this is just a phase I'm going through where my body is reacting to all the changes going on. Definitely hoping it's not a permanent occurrence.

I have been more sick with my sinuses. My Dr does not want me to take steroids so that really limits my meds that I can take for my sinus infections. OTC stuff does not help me. That pretty much has been my biggest deal, my sinuses and headaches. I use to be able to pop 3 Excridine Migraines and WHam it was gone, not now. I am going to have to seriously talk to him about that when I go back for my 3 month appt.

I think I've improved health wise since the op.... my asthma has stopped, as has my rhinitus, and I've not had a cold or sore throat at all since the op... despite mixing with people that have had really bad colds, and husby having had one too......

Maybe I'm just lucky!

Warning - I have no medical evidence to back this up but....

It was explained to me that our bodies often store toxins in body fat and as you burn that fat you can re-release stuff causing mild flu like symptoms here and there as your body works these things out of your system....

I think you just came in contact with some germs. I haven't even had ONE headache since surgery. It's amazing.

I have never been better! No colds, no sinuses, nothing! The only thing I can attribute it to is the Vitamins and exercise. Normally I get every thing that is going around!

This was my doctor's conclusion as well. I should also probably not be drinking as much as I am and eat more Protein.< /p>

I rarely got sick maybe once a year if that but I have been sick twice since surgery, I think it may have to do with not getting as much nutrients. I am taking my Vitamins but I used to eat a lot and a good amount of it was fruits and vegetables.

Not a medical expert but the changing weight so quickly may also cause the body stress and stress breaks down the immune system causing illness.

On a side note I am so so so cold always cold and I used to be a big sweaty furnace so maybe that has something to do with it...

That's what I was thinking as well.

Hi Yes I think I was, although now I think all is OK. I had to abandon a 6 month contract half way through as I was so continually ill with infections one after the other. I think the drastic weight loss deplete your bodies resources and leaves you open to attack, and this was despite taking supllements and Vitamins etc!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
