Sleeved 2 days ago - Hospital Experiences

Nausea after surgery can be from your pain meds. Morphine make me sick. I told them before and they gave me dilauded (sp) in stead. It amazes me why some docs can't figure this out. Alot of people don't tolerate Morphine.

The headaches definately can be caused by artificial sweeteners. I did not use sugar-free "anything" and I did not have headaches.

For a Protein Drink that not the consistancy of paint, use Carnation Instant (not SF), two Tbls. Non-Fat Dry Milk powder, 8 oz milk and two ice cubes. Throw it in the Magic bullet, whip it up and it's really good. It's not syrupy sweet either.

I ate popsickles (which went down GREAT) to get more fluids in at the beginning.

Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for all the help. I guess I need to look harder for the unflavored Protein liquid. I'll look online. Thanks. Vitamin Shoppe here doesn't sell anything that is unflavored - in fact they looked at me like I was a nut for even asking - I guess the assumption is that you want something you can mix with Water so it has to have a sweet flavor. My headaches are so much better. I think getting my liquids back up is the main thing. I am actually up to 64 oz now which I wasn't for the first 5 days after surgery. I feel considerably "less full" now. Thanks to everyone for the help.

I found "flavored" Protein Shots (26 grams) at both Walmart and costco. Since I love grape flavor the most, I just poured it into one of my Grape Zero Powerades/G2's or allowable juices, etc (pre-surgery) and that really helped me tolerate the taste much better.

Spudds :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
