8 days post op, lost over 30lbs, still on liquid diet. Story / Questions

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days post op and feeling great, heck I felt pretty damn good right when I woke up from the surgery, and have improved every day since then. I have no complaints at all, I have lost over 30 lbs since starting the pre op liquid diet, things are going about as perfect as the could be. I am a stickler for following the Doctors rules when it comes to the sleeve, which is odd because in others areas of my life I never listen to anyone, and just do as I see fit. The problem I am having is that post op I knew two days before the clear liquid diet was done that I would be fine for full liquids, I bit my tongue and waited, then progressed to full liquids on schedule. Now I am only 3 days in on the full liquids, I can down 3oz of Protein shake every hour, I feel remarkably awesome, and I know that some pureed food would do wonders for me right now. My doctors rules are no mushies until the post op appointment which is not until next Wednesday. At this point I have not chewed on food since February 23rd, and I could really use something to chew on, or make me feel like I have eaten. Its not that I feel hungry, because I dont, the 3 ounces of Protein shakes actually fill me for while, but its just I wish I could have something more substantial. I have been very active since the surgery, walking over 15,000 steps a day according to my body bug device. I am wondering if there is to much of a calorie deficit right now?

I'm wondering if some egg drop Soup, or Tomato Soup, you know something slightly thinker than broth would hurt me right now?

Has anyone progressed quicker than their Doctor told them to? Oh how I keep dreaming of some tuna fish, egg beaters, or pureed chicken chili.

Is this just a mental thing, or is this my body wanting more than the 300 calories a day than it has been getting?

Hmm... I was told that full liquids were things like milk, very runny yogurt, Soup, etc, so egg drop soup and Tomato Soup should be OK according to that criteria. I'd start out with with only a mouthful or 2 of anything new and if you feel OK, you can always have some more later once you know you're OK with it.

My surgery was on Feb. 28 so i'm 9 days post op and my full liquids includes creamed Soups. I had a wonderful cashew ginger carrot soup-in-a-box today (Pacific brand). I do have to reheat my soup several times to get it down but i'm probably eating about a 1/3 of a serving. I back it up with at least 60 grams of protein via shakes. So I usually have two shakes (30 grams each) and 2 (sleeve sized servings) of a low fat low carb creamy or blended soup. I made cream of chicken (cambells healthy request) soup last night and strained all the chicken bits outs. I also watered it down a little more than the directions stated but I was never one for really thick Soups. Tonight i'm going to have potatoe leek soup.

I think you could easily have the egg drop soup if you strained the eggs stuff out. I had wonton soup my first week (minus the wonton) and it was fantastic.

I'm on "Full" liquids for a total of two weeks (started Monday). I had one week of Clear Liquids (broth only) my first week post op. I will move to mushies beginning week four for 3 weeks.

Good luck.... I totally understand what you are going thru. Aslo, Gummy Vitamins are a treat :P gives you something to chew on!

I had my sleeve done on 2/26/2011 and am eating anything I want. I stayed on the liquids for 5 days then slowly started trying different things. So far no problems. I really love this as I am eating what ever I want just very little of it. Wishing you the best of luck.

I may have to re read my Instructions, it seems most people were allowed creamed Soups, egg drop Soup, and so on during the two week full liquid stage. would kill for something that had an actual flavor other than Protein drinks, Jello, and broth.

Thanks for all the great replays.

I just checked my doctors "stage three liquid diet" Instructions again, it says it is the same as the clear liquid diet, with the addition of Protein Shakes or carnation instant Breakfast. Im gonna try to tough it out until next Wednesday when I have my two week post op check up, but I do seem to be getting weaker, and sleeping more as the days go on.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
