I hid the scales away about a month ago. I was so depressed when i got on them so i just thought i would put them away for a while. Bad idea. I have put on almost 12 lbs and am now at my heaviest ever. :(

I know since i booked surgery etc, i have been a bit out of control, pigging out but im sure hiding the scales away has not helped.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I am so glad it is only 3 weeks til i get sleeved, i am so unhappy being the way i am.

I took my docs advice and replaced two meals with Protein shakes. It gave me a chance to find what I liked before surgery. I had a dinner of meat and veggies and one to two high Protein Snacks ( cheese, Jerky, egg, deli meat/lettuce wrap, cottage cheese, milk w/scoop of powder milk) If I had a bad food day and ate something I shouldn't, I just tried again the next day. It made all the difference in my liver, which was swollen and mushy 4 months before surgery and small and firm the day of surgery. Also, my surgeon thought I was doing so well, he only made me do the clear liquid pre-op diet for 3 days instead of two weeks.

I lost at first, had a setback and ate tons of junk when I was denied by insurance, got back on track after my appeal and still did good. You can see my weight loss graph at fatsecret.com.

Now that the scales are back out, weigh once a week. Stop pigging out--you aren't saying goodbye to your favorite foods forever, just temporarily while you learn better habits. Start drinking Water when you think you are hungry but if hunger continues, have a Protein snack instead of Cookies or whatever your particular weakness is. Remember your goal is to be healthy.

If you start changing your habits now, it will be easier for you post-surgery. If I have one regret, it is that I didn't do a pre-op diet. I figured I would let the surgery do its magic, and it IS magic, but I'd have lost some weight pre-op that won't be coming back and I'd be that much closer to goal.

I have been doing the same thing...eating everything I could and I have gained 6lbs since I filled out the application and sent in my deposit. Carbs make a huge impact on my moods so feeling very depressed on top of everything else. It makes me question my decision for VSG and if I will be able to handle such a totally different way of life and eating after I have the VSG done. Will start with shakes and Protein meal today. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
