That's what Im saying here. The charcoal underwear would be a dealbreaker for me. And I know there are some similarities in the effects of sleeve vs bypass; such as dumping in some people.

I've spent a considerable amount of time before I got sleeved reading all the problems people were having on this board. I've only seen excessive gas mentioned once in all the posts I've read. I'm no doctor, but from what I've seen, it's really, really, really remote possibility. However, run this by your doc if you are really concerned.

I don't have gas that way. However, some days I burp... a lot. Mainly when I drink too fast. Other days, I can't burp at all. I think all in all I'm more gassy than I was pre-op, or maybe I just notice it more. No one has told me I was stinky though.

OMG that's too funny, I personally smell like Victoria's Secret but I know plenty of non-sleevers who smell funky so I can't say the sleeve has anything to do with it, I smell a lot better than when I was on Atkins ketosing myself to death! LOL I think I smell better than ever...less sugar less you know what-just keeping it real!

I had horrible gas before surgery and now it is gone. After surgery I only had gas once when I had prunes. never since then. I think I was intolerant to some food or it was the excess of carbs... now it is fine, maybe the healthier diet is helping.

I'm sorry to hear this, especially since I just decided to go with Dr. Aceves for his deal of 8750 in Mexicali.

I know the issue with gas is malabsorption. Maybe you could try take digestive enzymes or Probiotics -- build

the good bacteria and help the food pass through your system. But this brings me to a question I can ask you -- would this be the kind of thing you could talk to Dr. Aceves about -- in other words, is he available by

phone to ask questions like that?

I have a terrible gas problem. It's limiting what I can do in my social life.

I did go online and found some pills that supposedly if you take every single day, it won't smell offensive. I took them once and threw them up. It may have been because I took them on an empty stomach.

I do know if I am really careful about what I eat all day long, I can go out socially that evening. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why I get the gas. It's a huge problem though! All I know is, I never had this problem when I was banded or before WLS.

Sweet! friend me if you want :)

sigh...I'm actually 286 now....was so afraid of losing pre-op that I went the other direction!!! (my insurance will only pay if my BMI is 40)

hey we're not only close in ht/wt but geographically too - I'm from Omaha! B)

:) Hey Beth, we're at about the same starting point. I'm 41, 5'10" and 285.

I've had trouble with Constipation since the beginning. I use Miralax off and on almost weekly. I don't have gas any more or less than I did before surgery, nothing has change...smell or the amount. Actually I think I have less gas than before. I attribute that to eating better.

Anyone who has read about getting a gastric bypass knows that one of the most unpleasant side effects of that surgery is very offensive gas. People talk about it at their work and stuff and NOTICE it; patients are forever after having to worry if they're giving off emissions. There's now a line of charcoal seatpads and pantyliners to absorb the odor called Flat D.

Do sleevers have the same problem? Anyone here?

Dr. Aceves is always available through email. Usually it's Dr. Campos that is the one that calls back.

It's very frustrating to read everyone else say that they have no gas. I haven't

had any today. there are some days where it's like every 5 min.

I am one of the few people that dump too. I get really sick if I eat something high in sugar and high in fat. Of course I don't do that very often. Once I had a small piece of wedding cake and it was extremely horrible.

Good idea, maybe I'll do that instead of a full cap a couple of times a week. Maybe that would work better! Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
