I asked my family dr. what he would recommend and he told me to use the "tried and true" corn Syrup in Water like you do for babies.......I bought miralax instead :)

I have felt your pain, literally! It took a visit to my gyno, regular doc, and then a colorectal surgeon to get me sorted out.

Here's what I recommend, first get a "Sitz" bath. I got mine at Walgreens. Its a little tub to sit your bottom in. Believe it or not soaking the area in hot Water 3 or 4 times a day will help them heal and make it feel somewhat better. Talk to your doctor about getting some lidocaine gel for the pain. I was given a compound with nitroglycerin in it. My problem was not the burning, but that my sphincter muscle spasmed nonstop. The nitroglycerin salve helped that.

For the long haul I have been directed to take Miralax EVERYDAY! I have been on it for about 6months and I have not had any issues since.

glad I found this link. I just went thru the giving birth type bowl movement. I was 5 days post op, today is 6 days. After enemas, Milk of magnesia(MOM) and ducolax supository I gave birth to 3 cue balls that felt like cactus...sorry to be so discriptive. Now I've been having light bleeding when ever I go. I was using the "Tucks" wipes as I have hemmoriods and they seem to burn. I still feel like that are prickers in my but. I've taken a few doses of the MOM but dont' want to over use it, but I'm so scared of having another sizeable hard BM. I called my doctor yesterday. He never gets on the phone. It's the PA. I left a message saying I was in pain and impacted and waited three hours and called back crying. She told me then about MOM and supositories. She not very sympathetic. Maybe feel like I was over reacting and that I should have read the literature more thouroughly. When you feel like a brick is up your bum, you don't want to read. I asked her about Miralax and she was a bit dismissive as she wanted me to address the immediate problem, but I'm worried going forward. How soon do you think it's ok to start taking myralax post op?

You are all very helpful. Thx

Yes, I use Miralax and the powder form of Fiber in my first drink bottle of Water everyday. I usually only need about half a dose of Miralax....havent had issues in a year now. If you get fissure and it won't heal...the best bet is a colorectal surgeon who can give you the salve before metioned which will help it heal....Tracy

Thanks so much. I will do that. Still waiting to hear from the PA at my surgeons office to get back to me. She is very dismissive and almost rude. Shouldn't be a care giver in my opinion. I wish I had done more research before going to this surgeon. It's my own fault.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
