stomach swelling after 90 days

Recommended Posts

Well, started feeling bad about 6 days ago and at first thought I had a flu bug. Got so bad Thursday night that I went to the ER. I had one of those do nothing doctors and was sent home after being pumped full of morphine for the pain. Called the surgeon's office and was goven a Monday appointment...had I not been so out of it from pain, morphine, and lack of sleep i might have had enough sense to explain what had happened. The pain got so bad late Sunday night that I went back to the ER. Again tests were run and I was told there was nothing wrong with me. As I rolled around on the bed holding my gut and crying with pain I was told that abdominal pain was not a reason for admission...so much for the Harris Methodist hospital system. I asked them to call my doctor and they refused...guess I should have done that myself and feel rather stupid now. Anyway, today my surgeon was livid...don't want to know what he said to any of those people but I had a barium swallow soon after that. Seems my stomach/sleeve is swollen inside and that's why I couldn't eat and could barely drink. Elevated WBCs I guess show something is infected. I just don't get it...everything was great. Drinking, getting all my Protein, working out, shed 53 pounds, and a happy camper until this started. Has anyone had this kind of problem?

Sending my best wishes on a quick recovery. Sometimes I could just smack the doctors that dismiss peoples pain. Glad you went to your doctor and are going to be treated.

Did you maybe eat something that got stuck? I am 14+ months out and the other day i ate coconut and was in pain for 3 days. . . damn thing didn't digest at all . . . it was pretty bad pain. . . i get the same pain from lettuce, so maybe you ate something different. . . if not I don't know. . . hope you feel better soon. . . i'm glad you went to the doctor though, yeah those ER doc's are sorta useless aren't they?

Nope ...ate my regular stuff so not sure what started all this. I will tell you that after drinking the dye I threw up a lot and all the pain went away after that. They started me on Flagyl today and put me back on Clear Liquids which is what I was doing anyway. The other odd thing is that when I woke up this morning I needed to "poop" for the first time in a week and boy did I go. Now I'm wondering if I had some kind of a blockage that was missed by 3 doctors and by 3 radiologists who did 3 dye tests!

I am no doctor, nor am I a nurse, but it could have very well been that u had some sort of obstruction. I have had 16 abdominal surgeries in the last 7 yrs like, and most were hernia repairs and bowel obstructions, and i'll tell ya, there is noooo pain in this worldddddd like an obstruction. I have had partial and full blown obstructions, and its like someone is stabbing u in cold blood, with a knife constantly....major pain and very uncomfortable feeling, and u cant go to the bathroom, so it sounds to me like thats probably what u experienced. that is what they give u for the pain....morphein In any event, im glad ur feeling better now, and hope ur'll never have to experience anything like that again!!! I have every ailment under the sun. In addition, recently diagnosed with lupus, and after all the bypass surgeons told me im nooo candidate for the bypass, now,....cause my intestines r hanging way below my pelic area, and its like an emergency sort of, they wanna do the sleeve on me and repair the intestines/hernia at the same time. Good luck to u :) keep up the good work!!! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
