I know everyone is different, but- Ballpark- how long post op did everyone see a drop/normalization of their cholesterol levels? Also anyone have any suggestions for the leg cramps caused by statin drugs, for the cholesterol? Rx'd muscle relaxers make me sooooo sleepy.

I hope your cholesterol levels drop just from the sleeve so you can stop the statins. They are not so harmless as they are made out to be. I had my cholesterol levels tested after about a 18 months from my VSG, and bear in mind I had been eating 2 eggs at least a day for a year at that point, plus red meat and cheese. My level was 4.2, HDL = 1.7, LDL = 2.2 which is pretty good. But at the end of the day I think it's your particular genetic make up that determines your levels.

My cholesterol before the operations was fairly high, can't remember the levels though the doc wanted me on drugs. I just went 3 months post ops and my levels were BELOW AVERAGE. I don't think the sleeve "makes" the cholesterol go down but forces a diet that drops the levels.

Have it checked again whenever your doc wants blood panels to check your Vitamin and minerals, he should do it as a rule anyway but just remind him. You might just need less drugs.

Reminder IANAD seek a medical professions opinion when it comes to your health.

Muscle cramps can be a reason to stop statins because you can end up with a thing called rhabdomyolysis which can make you pretty sick from breaking down cells.

However, taking coq10 can help too - are you on it? Statins deplete the coq10 which gives energy to the cells.

Make sure you talk to your doctor.

I had my blood checked 5 months after sleeve and cholesterol was the same. HOw odd, right? My triglycerides were wayyyy down though. I just had blood checked again at 13 months after sleeve and I'll let you know what it said. I don't eat as bad, so kinda weird. We'll see. I made sure I ate/drank nothing and then night before I didn't eat anything fried. I don't know if that matters, but just trying to see some results on the test.

Very afraid of Vitamin levels though. Pretty sure I'm messin up still on that. He is probably gonna yell at me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
