Sleeved 2/28 and still up 3lbs from IV fluids

Recommended Posts

Hey Friends,

I was told by a nurse that I would gain weight from the IV fluids they pumped into me during my 2 day hospital stay. I've been the perfect patient - walking around, deep breathing, getting nearly all my recommended liquids, Proteins, Vitamins down, etc. I feel better than expected with minimal pain since day one. I have a very positive attitude and ZERO reqrets but can't help that I am disappointed that I am still UP 3lbs of the 10 Fluid pounds I gained in recovery after I've been doing everything "right".

Anybody else with a similar story you can share along with what I have to look forward to in the following week or so?

-Kelly

Due to my complications with my revision, I put on over 30lbs of fluids while hospitalized. It took forever to drop that weight, but it did go away.

Your body is still in shock from surgery, and recovery.

Howdy Sleeve mate...

I also put on 10 lbs but mine started coming about 2 days ago. I drink lots of water... just plain Water. The more you pee the more of that will flush thru the system.

Everyone is different just like PMS effects us all differently. Your body may hold on to fluids longer than mine. Be patient, this is why they told us not to weight... looks like neither one of us are good at following those orderstongue.gif.

I've never been one to retain Water but my mom has to take Fluid pills. I have to potty all the time and she rarely has to go.

Hang in there.... this too will pass (along with the gas ohmy.gif)

-Kelly-

Looks like you have dropped 7 of the 10 so you are on your way....each pint (2 cups) of Water weighs 1 pound. Agree with 2bslimkim it takes Water to get it flushed out...sort of counterintuitive....but with every diet I have been on the more water I drank the more I lost, within the confines of what your dr advised on cc/hour of intake.

The day I get surgery, I plan to take my bathroom scale and shove it in a closet. Unless my Dr. specificly requests me to track my weight, I really don't want to know (outside of doctor visits) how much I've lost.

I'm done obsessing over the numbers. The only numbers I'm concerned with now are the numbers associated with my clothing size. If I"m losing, I'll notice it in my clothes.

I hope my doctor doesn't ask me to weigh myself. Ugh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
