Seems early. I'd say wait. But you can always try a bit. My guess is that you don't finish one coin, let alone a roll. Rice and bread are the hardest things I've found.

I just want a little bit of sushi. I am 3 weeks out and I am wondering if it will be okay?

I tried sashimi for the first time around 5 weeks out when I was cleared for all solids. When u do finaly go Ask them to cut the fish into small chunks instead of long strips...it is much easier then doing it yourself. Am 3 months post op and still havent tried to eat a roll because I'd rather stay away from the rice anyways. Sushi has always been one of my favorite things and I'm so happy im still able to enjoy it and actually feel satisfied now. Don't really even miss the rice for now. :-)

I really don't think it would be very enjoyable. You are only supposed to chew sushi 3-4 times max or else the fish gets too mushy and warm in your mouth and it ruins the experience. We are supposed to chew our food very very well before swallowing....so i don't think it will be the same for you.

Also - if getting nigiri the rice could be a major factor. I doubt you could eat one piece.

At 3 weeks out you should be following exactly what your nutritionist/surgeons says to eat...not looking for permission to eat "outside the box". Give it time....you will be able to have sushi again.

Have some sashimi, it's great - high-protein and goes down easily. But I agree with others in that it's best to wait with anything with rice. Even today, I can only eat 3, maybe 4 smaller rolls - dry rice quickly makes me feel stuffed in an unpleasant way.

I order a bowl of crab salad - what they use for a California roll, edamame and sashimi. I eat about 1/4 cup of crab and same edamame and maybe 2 oz of fish. Always have leftovers for lunch the next day! Yummy.

You can ask for cucumber rolls instead of rice or seawead. I haven't tried them but read about it from another WLS patient.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
