Give me an answer PLEASE

Recommended Posts

UHC has had all my info for a week now and still no answer. Just getting really frustrated. I'm usually a very patient person, but I am so anxious to find out if they are going to approve me or not. I think I have literally made myself sick worrying about what they are going to say. They said it could take up to 15 business days to make a decision, ugh!

Can't do anything about the waiting. :P I hated that part. I called my doctor's office everyday to check because I was afraid they forgot about me. lol

Start bugging the insurance company..Let them know that you really need this for your health. Always remember the squeaky wheel always gets the grease. ;)

Yep, I agree. Bug them! That's how I found out that my nurse coordinator was out of the office and that I'd have to wait until she was back in. They didn't know how long that would be. I called the main customer service line and asked for a nurse coordinator re-assignment, they said they'd call me with an update. The next day I was approved. They are stingy and don't want to approve stuff, but if you keep on them, have the coverage and have met your requirements then there is no reason that you should be denied. Let them know you are still waiting!

I agree that you should call your insurance company case manager every darn day but be VERY nice! I am an RN and once upon a time worked for an insurance company as utilization review nurse and I promise you that the squeaky wheel DOES get the grease (or the authorization) in your case. :help: But this person may have a lot of influence over whether or not or how quickly you get approved. It isn't fair but I will tell you that I "went to bat" for people whose story moved me or who I just got to know well and I worked extra hard to get their procedures approved. I was not working with weight loss surgery but other types of surgeries and procedures and I am sure it is the same. Be nice, be friendly and polite but be persistent and you will get your answer!

I actually called the insurance company nurse the day before the pre-cert packet was being submitted. I explained that there was a possibility of my surgery getting moved up if I got the approval quickly but that if it took the full 2weeks (which it always does) that it could be as late as May/June because of my work schedule. Long story short......approved in less than 24 hours. :)

Thanks ya'll! I actually got my approval letter in the mail late yesterday. I mean I could've had an answer last week if they would have called or I guess I should've called but I was trying not to bother them. Nonetheless I have my approval now and am soooooooooo excited!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
