Question for Women on/after Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone! I think I'm gonna go buy a sports bra thats a size up than I normally wear! I'm glad you guys have not had my trouble with your bra's/incisions! That was one of the many things I wasn't sure about. And being a week and 4 days pre-op, I'm getting nervous!

My mom's surgery is 2 days away as well!

I'll make sure to tell you guys what I did...

thanks again!

Like some of the others, I was never told anything about not wearing my underwire bras. I never wore anything else! Didnt even need a bandaid.

I wore my underwire when I went out, but took it off when I was at home. I don't like not wearing a bra, but was more comfortable without it right after surgery.

I am a 38 DD and wore an underwire no problem. While I was a home healing though I got rid of the bra. I think either would work as long as they are supportive.

... I'm wondering when I lose to goal if those lower incisions (port site) are gonna be right on my waistband?!!

I asked my Dr. about the incisions and port being on the waistband. He reminded me that my waist was going to get lower. WOW!! I love him :kiss2:

I took the scissors to an old bra. Snipped between the boobs and under my arms nearest my incision. Also did the same with some old panties. A few inch snips down the side. I just started wearing my regulars a few days ago. It was a comfort issue for me.

Okay, so how do you use duct tape? I have heard that models and other celebs use duct tape, but I don't understand just how that works. Do you run it underneath? Tape them together? Under and over your shoulders? If it makes me sit up like some of those girls do I'd sure like to try it!

I was back in my underwires within a week of surgery. The underwire actually worked better for me because it got the weight off of my stomach. The underwire rested above my top incision so there was no realy complication after the initial soreness subsided.

I didn't know you couldn't wear an underwire. I wear a 44DDD right now, and have a bra that i wear that is built like a battleship. The underwires are stronger than steel. LOL At home I never wear a bra, but if I even step out to get the mail it has to be on. I can't imagine not wearing one. I hate bras without underwires cause I feel like my boobs merge into one large boob. I am hoping that my bandaids I bought will just protect the scars and let them heal ok. we'll see.

I got these sports bra's at Walmart that slip on over your head... They worked just fine and they were as comfy as wearing a t-shirt. Plus - they were ultra cheap.

Good luck!

I was worried about the same thing. But I wore my normal underwire bra from the hospital. Never had to buy a different bra and had no problems. The incision that I have under my bra was only about 1/8" or less and only needed a band aid.

Me too. I got a front closure underwire from Lane Bryant and I loved it because the front closure was a little higher in front that the full band, which gave me a little rise to avoid the tiniest incision. By day 3 post-op, I wore whatever bra I wanted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
