5 days out...hard to drink!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Friday 2/25 and I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because i had so much swelling on my stomach that on day 2 post op, the contrast I drank for my swallow study stayed in the upper portion of my stomach.

I am currently on a liquid diet and will be for the next month...My issue is that I feel so restricted!!! I take 4 sips of a drink and I'm so full. I made an 8 oz Protein Shake this morning and I still haven't been able finish it yet. The only thing I can take easily is SF Popsicle...

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? I am worried that I will soon be dehydrated badly and I ma probably breaking down a lot of muscle since I am unable to meet up with my Protein requirements.

I also want to mention that I have lost a lot of weight rapidly...I weighed 291lbs on the morning of surgery (5 or 6 days ago) and now I weigh 270.6lbs.

Someone please tell me what to do!!!Thanks.

Sorry you are having problems with Fluid intake! Congrats on the amazing weight loss in less tham a wk. All you can do is sip sip sip constantly. The cold popsicles may help with the swelling inside. It seems like i remember someone mentioning if they walk it helps the fluids move thru faster and make room for more. You should watch the color of your urine, if it starts getting darker its a possible sign of dehydration. You may have to go into the ER and get fluids thru IV. I hope it starts getting easier!

I'm sorry your having a hard time, when I got my sleeve it was 30 ml every 15 minutes. That's the size of a nyquil medicine cap. So you have to sip all day long. I had to set a my phone timer to remember to keep drinking and it helped so much! Good luck!!!!

I am having a very similar situation to you, princess. I was sleeved on 02/24 and am also having a hard time with getting all of the fluids in. I have also lost 20lbs in a week. I can tell I am already having restriction because I just can't get in more than 4 oz of liquid at a time (and it does take at least 20 minutes to get that down), but I'm constantly trying anything, whether it be a popsicle, a few bites of Jello, broth, etc. I bought these little 4oz rubbermaid containers at Target that I use for everything, so I make up little "protein shots" that seem to give me the most boost to make it through. I definitely know I'm not getting enough H20 though. Hang in there! We'll soon me skinny minnies!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
