chrismta 0 Posted March 2, 2011 Just wanted to know if the scarring after surgery is limited to the scars that go away after time. When you google it, there are some pics that show up that have a big incision (does not even look laproscopic)......in addition to the 5 or 7 smaller holes around your stomach area!! Did anyone go into this and end up getting scars that they didn't think they would have? My surgery date is 3/15 and I am on my pre-op diet until the surgery date....I can't wait! Good luck to all!! Noel Bleakney 10 Posted March 2, 2011 I would have a 25" scar if it means losing weight... just my opinion though
Foxbins 625 Posted March 2, 2011 I have five small scars that I think will be unnoticable once the redness fades. The longest is about an inch and the shortest maybe 1/4 of an inch.
stcyt 15 Posted March 2, 2011 Just over 10 months out and I have a tiny scar where my drain tube was that is no longer visible. A tiny scar in the center of my chest (1/2 inch) that is barely visible. I have a scar about 1 inch long just over my belly button and another 1 incher to the left of my belly button. The 1 inchers you can see... but not bad at all. Really... my boyfriend has never even noticed. I'm sure its different for everybody... but its pretty minimal for me. twoboysandagirl 109 Posted March 2, 2011 I also have five small incisions scars. I am almost 3 months out and I am suprised at how well they have healed. 3 are about 1/8 on an inch long. One on each side about 4 inches in from the center of my stomach. The two at the bottom of my stomach are about 4 inches from each other and they are about 3/4 inch long. I have had my husband take pictures of them right after surgery and at 1 and 2 months out. If you would like to see them pm me with your email.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted March 3, 2011 Mine are all tiny, as well, and they just look like moles in photos. They've faded a fair bit already; eventually, they will become white (if you have pale skin like me) and they won't be noticeable at all unless you've got a health professional examining you, as they are more used to spotting these types of things. If you are in a situation where you have to expose your stomach and don't want people seeing the scars, you can always put some foundation on them - or if asked, can just say you had some moles removed! The only scar I've seen people get that's very obvious is the drain scar. It seems that in people who carried a lot of weight in their belly pre-surgery, it can heal kinda funny so it looks like you have a second bellybutton in there. I never carried much weight in my stomach, so I just get a tiny dent when I flex my abs and that's it. But it's a lot more obvious in some other folks. Here's a pic of what I'm taking about, btw: http://ugliesttattoos.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/129200407000601625.jpg

snowfie9 6 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm more concerned about my stretch mark scars to be honest. they are old and they are NUMEROUS. my skin's gonna end up looking like ripping desert sand before I"m done. I can just tell.
TStew 25 Posted March 3, 2011 I had a uterine fibroid removed in Aug 2010 and had 5 small scars across my belly. Some are a bit low so I never even thought to ask Dr. Aceves if he could use the same. I was prepared to have TEN tiny scars and wasn't real happy about it but he managed to use three of the same cuts and the other two are really tiny. I lucked out. I use New Chapter Tamanu Oil on them every day and the ones from August that didn't get used for the sleeve are already a faint pink. The scars from the sleeve (a month ago) don't look bad at all and I think they're going to fade nicely.
iegal 460 Posted March 4, 2011 If you are so worried about scars - did you check around for a sugeon who can use the SPIDER to do VSG surgery? This is the "scarless" VSG surgery where surgeon enters with one instrument via belly button. Around for just over a year now. Check out the archives of "The Dr's" TV show to see a short clip on spider VSG surgery. As previous posters stated, if you go in US, the scars are usually 5 small incisions, unlike Mexico patients with 7 or more. Compared to strech marks, who cares about the roadmap on your stomach? Compared to strech marks, who cares about the roadmap on your stomach? Well I was sleeved in Mexico and have 4 small incision and 1 medium one abou 1 1/2" long where the drain was put - it's also where they put the largest piece of equipment and where they pulled the excess stomach out. Strange thing. I was sitting in my recliner and was scratching my stomach, AROUND and not on the largest incision is and it started to burn real bad, sting actually, like a paper cut. I looked carefully at it and it is still closed, the same color and NOT bleeding. My wife looked at it too and said it is no different. But for 2 days now it stings when I rub across it. I was wondering if I broke some adhesions loose from under it? This is my first major surgery scar so I have no experience with it.

My first major surgery scar was in 2005 and several inches long and it did that every once in a while for years (at least two) and my sister had a big one from a hysterectomy and hers did as well. The thing still itches sometimes, too!
