c_gargano 1 Posted March 3, 2011 Hi what are collagen caps and Nioxin Shampoo? Really? Never thought of that....hmmm Hi, It is not inevitable I am six months out I have always had very fine very thin hair so this was a major worry for me. I have heard Hair loss can start anytime after surgery up to six months so hopefully I am beyond it now. I was very careful to make sure I am getting enough Protein. I have been taking Biotin, a B complex, and collagen caps. I also have been using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner which I swear by.
c_gargano 1 Posted March 3, 2011 Hi there, I'm sorry you're already experiencing the hair loss :-( However, I must say that I am incredibly impressed with your 70 lb weight loss in 2 months! Great job! Wish my weight loss was moving that quickly!! Kudos to you sweetie! Ive read that people who get enough Protein still lose hair. That your body is in shock so losing hair just happens because you dont need it to survive. I'm 2 months out and it's started
TStew 25 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm extremely scared of the hair loss! I have fine hair but I had a TON of it and it is about mid-butt. It's been falling out for the past few years and I can now see my scalp for the first time ever and the WLS loss hasn't even started.... The WLS is my 3rd surgery in the past two years and I never even considered that the anesthesia might be the reason. I asked my doctor for suggestions and without hesitation - she said Rogaine. Anyone ever try it? I'm taking Biotin and I've purchased a few things from vitacost and will begin using this week. Engergizer Hair Follicle Stimulator and Jason Think to Thick Scalp Elixer. Looking for the Nioxin - supposed to be available in drugstores but I haven't found it. I also bought Avalon Organics Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner. It claims to restore thinning hair and had some good reviews.
SarahS 13 Posted March 3, 2011 Mine started thinning around 2 months post op. I next week I will be 5 months and it is still falling out. It has slowed a little bit, but I just figured that was because I have less hair to lose now! I asked my primary care doctor when I was there getting blood work the other day, and he said you lose it with weight loss because our bodies don't know how to handle being fat. So, when we lose that excess weight, your body doesn't know you were overweight and thinks you are starving, so it holds on to the needed functions and gets rid of unneccacary things. ie, you don't need hair to live. It made a lot of sense when he explained it that way. He told me once my weightloss slowed down, it would stop falling out. But I have slowed down a lot, so I am hoping it will start coming back in. But like Tiff, I will take the thin hair over the rolls and fat and health problems!
lunarose 97 Posted March 3, 2011 Hi, The collagen capsules I bought at Wal-mart it's suppose help with hair, skin and nails I figured it couldn't hurt. You can buy Nioxin at most beauty supply stores it is expensive but I think it is worth it my hair actually feels healthier.
