hungry during 1st week post op

Recommended Posts

I am getting a little nervous so just wondering if anyone can ease my mind....I am actually really hungry. I'm only on liquids (still 1st week post-op) and they don't stay with me. I'm hoping that mushy foods will be better and solid food in a few weeks will finally hit me the way it's supposed to. Everyone says 2-3 bites and they're full, I'm just hoping that this happens for me once I get to solids.

Look up the recipe for rice Water. Not the one with condensed milk (hortchata). It was a life saver for me that first week. But I still felt a little hungry and was told it was mind hunger not real hunger. It does get much better I promise you. Best of luck.

Did you do a preop diet? If so, how long... and was it liquids only?

Are you sure your hungry? And, its not just too much acid?

I ended up starting mushies earlier (2 days) because liquids were bothering me. I just started small :)

I was very hungry beginning February 8th, 5PM when I awoke from anesthesia post-op, for the next 3 nights at the hospital, and for the next 3 nights at my mom's house in Taipei where I received my sleeve gast. I was served rice Water, becuz in Taiwan, that's a common food waste/bi-product that is thrown away. It has no taste and may be what 10 KCals per 100cc (1/2 cup) ? In addition, I was allowed the equivalent of Gatorade diluted by 1/2 water, again taking away all the taste and reducing the K-Cals once again. I lost 15.4 lbs in 7 days, which I calculate my total intake 3 "meals" per days was around 500 KCal's -- if that. So, I hear your pain. It gets better once you can move on to clear Soups. And then you'll really appreciate the weight of the Soup and the filled up feeling compared to rice water, which again -- most people Asia dump out. It is NOT a food, really.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
