i think this will be GREAT news to a lot of people.

Hello Houston! (I posted this also under "Doctors")

Yes, I'm really glad to hear that Spiegel is back In-Network but for the one month that he decided to go out-of-network is the month that I got banded so I had to pay out-of-network costs which amounts to $2,500.00 more. I don't think that doctors should be allowed to jump in and out of network during the year. Normally, as an insurance client (or whatever you want to call me -- I have UHC insurance) I could not make a change until the first of the year. I think doctors should have to remain on the type of insurance they chose at the beginning of the year and then at the end of the year, change if they want. This is ridiculous. I wonder if Spiegel plans to re-imburse the people that got stuck in his one month period of uncertainty. Whew! Okay, I'm through venting now. Thanks for listening!! ;)

Xena,

If you get a refund let me know. :) I also had to pay for the time he fell out of network. I still hope his bill gets there before the surgicenter or I will owe them. This system really sucks and its difficult to navigate these insurance waters sometimes.

Not sure who dropped who, but all is well that ends well.

I'm thinking about calling UHC to ask them about a refund -- thing about it is that it would have to come from Spiegel's office because he is the one that I had to pay. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Also, from what Spiegel's office says, he got out of network and it had to only be for 1 1/2 months. :grouphug:

It was effective June 1st, so for me he was only out 13 days. Also, when he was in network, the surgical center was going to charge me $2,900. They still want to charge that to me if there bill gets there before Spiegel's. Has to do with the deductible, etc. Keep me posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
