lash44 313 Posted March 2, 2011 I am a bit over six weeks out and finding some foods I use to eat and enjoy; I am have problems digesting or just don't have a taste for any more. Foods such as oat meal, okra, Water melon, bake chops, just to mention a few. I was advised after sleeve surgery patients would have to learn how eat again. They are very much correct. food now is an adventure, learning what is healthy and nutritious. Reading labels, going to restaurants and ordering from the child plate or at best splitting an order from the menu. Leaning what to eat, what not eat, how much, how to chew, how slow to eat are just a few new ways of the sleeve patient. A few months ago I knew nothing of Greek yogurt, whey Protein, and blender bottles. Now it’s a way of life for me. What's most important is to be a success, I must adjust my attitude to meet the challenges bariatric sleeve surgery and how food affects my new stomach. A new point of view and a mind-set toward life and food have made this man 40 pounds smaller with 30 more to go. And that’s great for myself and loves ones. Comments please! Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted March 2, 2011 You are very new to being sleeved. Now that I am close to 2 years post op, I eat a fairly normal diet. There is nothing really that I can't eat. I don't have to chew as much as I used to , but I still chew more than someone who isn't sleeved. It gets easier every day!
Rootman 1,101 Posted March 2, 2011 The changed taste is partly do to ketosis, the burning of body fat in a larger amount than is normal. Think of it as a car that is burning oil. It leaves a film in your mouth, gives you weird breath and changes your tastes. It is also partly due to the fact that you probably aren't hung any more and not getting the endorphin rush from eating any more. It does get better. Take advantage of this period to, of course, eat less and modify your diet and learn new eating habits.

tntransplant06 20 Posted March 2, 2011 I didn't know men wouldn't be hung anymore after surgery! (haha Rootman!!) I'm about the same as you as time out. food does taste a bit weird and every day it's something different. I may not have tolerated tuna fish last week, but this week it's all my belly will take. I'm not sweatin' it bc I knew there would be a ton of changes going on. As long as the scale keeps going downward, I'm a happy camper. I really don't miss food....well except popcorn. Gosh I miss that.
