Congratulations and good luck with your surgery.

It's strange how a person can have all the information in the world about how something affects your health and still end up trapped in a bad cycle. Medical professionals who smoke, for example (and I"m sure there are plenty who do).

If I may ask, what kind of doctor are you in UAE? Are you a general doctor or a specialist?

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Good luck friend!

It is sometime typical that this situation can occur. It seems the mechanic drive a jalopy, the painters house is peeling paint and a doctor is fat or etc. It happens.

What is important is that you are taking care of it.

Congratulations on making this decision. I have to say that you are right in how people take the information you are giving out. The first surgeon I saw was significantly overweight and, as much as I hate to say it, it was a factor in my deciding on a different surgeon. I felt that if he could not follow the guidelines he was giving me, what did that say about him.

I am a nurse and I know that I have felt bad trying to give any lifestyle advice to patients, thinking they were judging me on my weight. Who was I to advise them when I could not do so for myself.

Good luck on your journey.

That's cool, I'm gonna be a doc in about 2 years and I had the surgery about half a year ago. I do think that it's harder to counsel your pts about weightloss if you are very obese yourself. Even though you know more than most about weight struggles, some people are just too quick to say "physician, heal thyself." And like leeblewb said, even I myself would be leery of a weightloss surgeon who was significantly overweight. My surgeon actually performed the sleeve on another physician on his staff, which was a huge selling point for me - it showed that the other doctor trusted my surgeon well enough after working with him for years to let him operate on himself! Plus it was nice to arrive there and see that he was even thinner than his "after" picture posted on my surgeon's website. Maybe if you are open about your personal experience with the sleeve, some of your obese patients might be more likely to consider WLS.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
