KENTUCKY Sleevers?!!?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Dr. Steiner will be doing my sleeve on February 19. I am very excited, and a little scared, to be honest. It seems like it will be a lot of work, but also very rewarding. My sister had the bypass over a year ago, and she has lost 100 pounds, so hopefully I'll have her luck. Don and Randy - I'm in Lexington as well, definitely interested in starting a small group!

Geekguy, let me know after your surgery when you are ready to meet, or before your surgery if you want to meet before. I would be happy to meet you for a cup of Decaf coffee. My surgery was 11 days ago and each day is better than the day before. The first 5 days were difficult, but I am over the hump now and I am already so glad I had the surgery. Dr. Newton did my surgery, Dr. Steiner was assisting him.

Randy

Ha ha, safeman, I sent you a PM before I saw the post you'd made. I'd love to do that! I'm having a lot of trouble with the 30 carbs restriction, so any tips, tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking into the sleeve with Dr. Oldham out of Etown. Surgery to be done at Baptist East. Anyone else in the Louisville - Etown area? I am looking for feedback on the BlueGrass Group in Etown. Thanks!

I'm going in to schedule with Dr. Oldham on 8/18. Glad to see you are doing well with your surgery!

Dr Oldham is amazing. I've had some med tolerance issues and he had be so great. Calling me on his own time to check on me. Got me out of the hospital before our snowstorm hit the other day. He's so nice and a great surgeon

wondering the process and how long it takes to get approved. I have watched the online seminar and sent in my packet to the Baptist health weight loss (Dr Weiss). Just not sure about Bluegrass Family Health Insurance, if I will get approved or not. did anyone have to do a 6 month supervised diet? I heard some people on the forum discuss a diet they had to follow before their insurance paid?

Hi all, I'm in LaGrange. I'm not sleeved yet, and still researching. Just checked with my insurance, and the provide no coverage for WLS, so at this point, I'm on my own. I'm going to an informational session on Nov. 8 at Baptist LaGrange, and if all goes well, my surgery will be with Dr. Oldham. I've heard nothing but great things about him.

So those of you that have been sleeved for a while. How is it going?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
