Sugery on Monday, DD has flu

Recommended Posts

DD has a fever of 103, the beginning, I believe, of the flu. My neighbors had it last week, then had their kids at my house on Sunday. Now my daughter is sick which means it will probably go around the house. I'm due to have my surgery in MX on Monday. I'm pretty sure if I'm sick the surgery won't happen, right? Has this happened to anyone here? What happens if I'm sick and have surgery? Is that really risky? I'm sure the doc wouldn't anyway... but... I don't want to wait!

Thanks!

Lizzie

Start taking Vitamin C and Zicam right now! Zicam works wonders in preventing illness. As soon as my kids get sick I start taking it and usually I avoid whatever it is they've got. The nose spray is the least offensive form of it. Don't get the rapid melts, they taste nasty! You can find it in any of the chain stores by the cold remedies.

Hope you stay healthy!

I think you should load up on osillo from the pharmacy! Its expensive (15$ for 6 doses) but it works to help fight off the flu. Did you get your flu shot? If you are sick, your doc wouldn't perform the surgery because your body's immune system is low. And it would be good to see how you feel over the next few days. If you start to feel sick, you should reschedule because you dont want wake up vomiting and making the band slip!

Hope you stay well!

If you do go ahead with the surgery, make sure you get anti-nausea medication, there is some you can get with prescription that is really powerful. Lowered immunity during surgery is one concern, the other is that if you have vomitting post surgery you could slip your band.

I swear by AIR-BORN. It was made by a teacher who was around sick kids all day. I love the stuff (its all natural) anytime I feel some thing coming on I take this and I feel better by the next day. Its an immune system boster so if i were you I would start it now.. It couldn't hurt.. It is ava. everywhere Walmart, walgreens, rite aid ect....Good luck

Wow guys, thank you all for the info packed replies! I was just talking to a friend of mine who says the "flu" isn't really going around. Regardless, both of my daughters now have fevers, but thankfully, no other symptoms. Fortunately, when I get sick, I NEVER vomit! I've tried to make myself just so I'll feel better but it never works. I could so not be a bulimic! :) I guess my greatest concern would be lowered immunity. So I'll be heading the advice and I'll try to find one of the immune builders listed above. Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
