I am considering having a body composition analysis done here at the University of Minnesota using a Bod Pod. Has anyone else had a Bod Pod analysis done.

Here is a video about the process: http://www.bodpod.co..._bp_testprocess

Cost is $40 - this I will have it done now and then again after I have hit goal. Please let me know if anyone had had this done or your thoughts!

Never heard of it, but sounds like it would be worth it just to see how you have improved yourself!

I've never had it done but I do know that it's the most effective way to measure body mass, especially percentage of fat. I f it's available to you I would have it done, it really simple as you can see on the video and only takes a few minutes.

My surgery group has something similar and the same results are provided----very sobering and interesting!

This looks to be similar to an older method of hydrostatic body mass measuring. Both use the same technique, measuring the displacement of a volume of gas or Water to determine the actual MASS of the body, this used with your weight will give you an exact BMI. The height \ weight charts we all use are guesstimates at best and only get you close.

Did you know? Most body builders or big football players or wrestlers are technically obese on the standard BMI chart? That's because of the massive amount of muscle they have put on their frame - using the same charts just using height and weight they cannot measure the true mass of their bodies. One of these gizmos WOULD tell them they are not obese as muscle is much more dense than fat.

I think it's hilarious that they use skinny models in the video, you have to know most people using them have to be fatties like us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
