Less than 24 hours to go!!

Recommended Posts

I could hardly sleep last night, dozed off on the couch, went to bed for a couple hours, came back out to the couch, dozed off for a couple more hours. I finally gave up on sleeping and started doing more chores around the house to keep busy. The lack of sleep is not due to being nervous, but rather because I am so damn excited about finally getting to this point. I took me a lot of denials, appeals, arguing with my insurance to get to this point, gave up smoking, and have spent the last 4 days on nothing but liquids, Jello, and broth. As I sit here writing this I have less than 24 hours b4 I need to be at the hospital at 6am tomorrow for a 7am surgery. I am down from 306 to 292 from the past four days of the liquid diet, so although the liquid diet has not been easy at least it got me a head start on the weight loss. I have but one last hurdle to jump before tomorrows surgery, drink that damn Magnesium Citrate this afternoon, and deal with the effects of it.

I am bringing my laptop to the hospital with me, so I will post as soon as I get out of post op, and into my room.

It's after 1am on March 1st here (New Zealand) and I'm up late because I can't sleep. In just under 12 hours I'll be turn up at the hospital and a couple of hours after that will have my operation. I don't have to have the bowel prep (good thing too, cos those Protein Shakes react on me like a bowel prep!!!!), so I just have to have brekky (protein shake) before 7am and then Water until midday.

I am excited and a little apprehensive..... but looking forward to the day when I can enjoy and feel satisfied with small portions of everyday meals. I always say that I'm a 5 foot woman with a 6 foot appetite. I'm trying to imagine a can of baked Beans lasting me for 2 or 3 meals instead of being able to down it in one meal with an egg and a couple of pieces of toast on the plate as well.

Anyway - good luck for your surgery...... see you on the other side of operation day.

WALK!

You won't want to, cause it hurts. But WALK anyway. It will dramatically speed up your recovery time.

WALK!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
