Anyone using Dr. Mueller in San Diego

Recommended Posts

I started with him but my insurance would not pay for the sleeve so I ended up self paying in MX.

He was nice; I liked him! When I told him that I was thinking the sleeve was right for me he told me straight up that this was a very important decision that would affect the rest of my life and not to let my insurance dictate the right tool for me.

I did not do a ton of research on him because I realized that he was right and that the bypass or band were not even an option for me and I was not up for a long drawn out fight to try to get my insurance to pay. I went to his seminar and met with him twice. I had a good feeling with him and also with the others in the office.

Just looking for any experience with Dr Mueller. Thanks :)

Tstew, thank you for sharing your experience. I've met with him and seems to genuinely care. I'm almost done with my supervised diet and hope to get a date within the next 2months. I'm sorry to hear your insurance didn't cover the surgery but I'm glad you were still able to have it.

I'm also going to be using Dr. Mueller. I haven't had the surgery yet - I'm on month 2 of the 3 month diet required by insurance. But so far, I love Dr. Mueller and his entire staff. Leti is my personal hero for working so hard to get my approvals completed before MArch 15th (my insurance is changing requirements on 3/15). So far, so good!!

Do you ladies go to the support group meetings at Sharp or Scripps? I went to the Scripps one last month but there wasn't a huge turn out because it was V-day. It was pretty informative though - a nutritionist spoke. It was cool to meet a few women who were waiting for the sleeve and be able to share my experience and answer questions.

Scripps is the second Monday of every month but Sharp seems to have several related meetins: http://www.sharp.com/weight-loss/bariatric-surgery/support-groups.cfm

Do you plan to attend any?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
