VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma) 20 Posted February 27, 2011 I definitely regret doing it and am a little worried...what happens now? I'm a week out from my surgery and ate most of a California Kitchen pizza last night. I ate 1900 calories yesterday and I'm only supposed to eat 1200 calories a day. I was STARVING! It was day 6 of my pre-op diet and I don't know if my body was just freaking out because I've been eating so little or if it was a stress trigger or a little of both, but I really regretted eating all that pizza. It wasn't all in one setting, it was spread out over the whole evening, but I'm still not feeling so great. I'm on all liquids today to get back on track. Ugh. Please tell me this gets a little easier after surgery!!!! :( :(
KathyM 14 Posted February 27, 2011 Dana- Big hug!!!!! Don't sweat it, and don't beat yourself up over it! We are all human! Just start back on that preop diet again and you will be just fine. And yes it does get easier after surgery! Good luck - you will love your sleeve!!! Kathy
jerri 1 Posted February 27, 2011 I just don't get the whole "pre-op diet" thing. My doctor doesn't require a liquid diet before surgery. I will be on liquids for 1 week after surgery and then never again. She does ask people to lose 10% of the weight they are to lose but she didn't require this of me because I'm pretty borderline on the BMI and my liver was looking okay. Anyway, all that said, I really don't think falling off your diet is a big deal because obviously some doctors don't even require a diet.
MRSKOUBiK 27 Posted February 27, 2011 We are human. We make mistakes. Today is a NEW day which means NEW beginnings. You didn't ruin anything... You just have to use today to learn from yesterdays mistakes I know it's hard to stick to the diets, I had one HECK of a time. But YOU CAN DO IT! If you're going to cheat, then try to pick something healthier! Such as I was allowed to have raw veggies... Eventually I grew tired of them(and everything else on my PRE OP DIET)... so I'd allow myself to have 2 tsp of LIGHT italian dressing. Or, I'd allow myself 1 serving of PLAIN chicken.< /span> It's all about making the best choice you can. I am not sure how I did it but even through cheating a little I lost 25 pounds and my surgery went off without any issues! Life after surgery IS easier. You don't have to battle the hunger... sasicas 194 Posted February 27, 2011 Like others have said, today is a new day to start fresh. I have cheated as well on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Once on pizza and salad at the Cheesecake Factory and then on a footlong from Subway. I've also had a taquito one night and a croissant roll. The pre-op diet is hard. Its been beyond difficult for me to stick to liquids only but its worth it. Just think, soon enough your surgery date will be here
Tarain 2 Posted February 28, 2011 My coordinator told me to do my best to stay on the diet, but they know many cheat a little. She said the last week is the most important so do not cheat during the last week. You still got a week so don't stress over it. The stress will probably do more harm than your slip up. Just focus on the week to come! Good luck and best wishes! Tracy
DougNichols 124 Posted February 28, 2011 Please tell me this gets a little easier after surgery!!!! Eating one scrambled egg after surgery fills you up for 5 hours ... Eating two, and you're in the bathroom throwing up from too much food.
VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma) 20 Posted February 28, 2011 Thank y'all so much! Yesterday was MUCH better. I "ate" like I was supposed to and lost a pound! I still have another pound to go to get back to where I was last Friday, but the scale is moving in the right direction again! I'm so glad to hear that in a week this will be so much easier!! 8 days until my sleeve!! YAY!!!
Deakay 15 Posted February 28, 2011 I'm not looking forward to this, but figure I can do anything for 10 days......we will see. The surgeon explained that the purpose of this diet is to limit carbs/sugars as they are stored in the liver and he needs the liver to shrink enough to get good access for the surgery. I just want to be scheduled so I can make a plan Good Luck to you, you can do it.
SParkle 4 Posted February 28, 2011 Glad to hear you're back on track and doing ok now..... The way I approached it was to think this is the LAST diet I'll ever be on. Hubby paid for my op, all I had to do was stick to the pre op diet, get the op and stick to the post op... which is easy as you'll not want to eat much anyway! 8 more days to go? Then its the last 8 days of a diet for you.... EVER! What better gift can you have, keep that in mind and shift the most you can before your op and you'll be putting yourself up there for an easier time post op, and less risk the more weight you can shift. Good luck - you'll be fine.

goingforgold 4 Posted March 1, 2011 I am right there with ya sister. I am scheduled for 03/07 with Dr. Nick. I lost it tonight. I started out with a salad and by the time I was done I had eaten 15 fish sticks, the salad and a blueberry bagel. Now I am stalking the pantry like a rapid dog. Please tell me it gets easier! Anyway, all that said, I really don't think falling off your diet is a big deal because obviously some doctors don't even require a diet. being on the Pre-op diet depends on your BMI and the fattyness of your liver. There is a lady on one of the other sleeve weight forums that ignored the pre-op diet and her liver cracked and instead of 2 days in the hospital she was in 6 and instead of a 2 week recovery hers was over 6 weeks. If you have to cheat please make it a healthy cheat (sugar free Jello, vegetables, sugar free popsicles). That is what I was advised by my surgeon and nutritionist. Hang in there only a few more days to go and no more dying of hunger.
My Big Day 3/15/2011 4 Posted March 6, 2011 I specifically came on here tonight to read back through this forum b/c I cheated tonight. I am supposed to be doing a low carb diet and I cheated a little tonight by eating a larger portion of meat than I was supposed to have (steak) and then by eating bites of my husbands cheesy enchiladas/refried Beans and then eating some silly mentos that my son was eating! I am barring myself from the kitchen for the rest of the night and drinking Water only and skipping my nightly Protein Shake supplement as I don't need it after all of the other things I had. The guilt is terrible and makes me realize the importance of having this surgery. I am 10 days from surgery so I am going to make sure to stick to the diet the rest of the time. It happens and you just have to keep trying!
