leg cramps on liquid diet

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow :) I'm worried about these awful leg cramps I'm having.I've been on the liquid diet all week and the last 3 days I've been like this. Its like when you get a cramp in your toe and it gets stuck, but its in my leg from hip to ankle. Its ok if I'm walking but sitting, standing, getting out of bed, going to the bathroom & trying to get dressed has been awful! I keep thinking it'll get better but no luck.this is gonna suk tomorrow trying to get out of the hospital bed. Is this normal?anyone know how I can get it to stop? HELP :)

I had this problem, but post op on the clear liquid diet. My doctor said it was from the Protein deficiency. Hang in there. It gets better.

low potassium can cause leg cramps......I would let your dr know they might want to check your levels--I have not had surgery yet so I dont know if they routinely check it before hand.....not sure if the Pickle Juice has Potassium in it or not.......it might

I woudl defentily talk to your doctor and tell him that you are having leg cramps he probably will give you a potassum drip before you go into surgery and might even keep you on one while your there. I would ask him if you can take potassum pills afterwards.

I can't explain it but that pickle juice has really helped. & umm sorry to hear about your constipational issues lol too funny!

Glad the suggestion helped. I called my patient coordinator with that problem and she suggested it to me and I did some research. Health911.com:

Mustard For years coaches have given mustard to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Mustard has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a spoonful or two of mustard.

Pickle juice As with mustard coaches have given Pickle Juice to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Pickle juice has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a few ounces of pickle juice.

Muscle cramps are a huge indicator of low electrolytes (Calcium/Potassium/Magnesium/Sodium). Drink more Gatorade, preferrably the regular, not G2. It should help. :)

If all else fails, contact your doctor!

I'm not sure if this is the same thing or not, but the back of my right thigh feels tight, like it's sore from a strain. Could this be the same thing? I'm just starting week 2 of my pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

I had the same problem. If you can stomach, pickle juice is the way to fix it.

It’s 5a.m and this is day 3 of waking to foot/leg/thigh cramps. Wrapping up week 1 of 2wk liquid fasting and these cramps are WORSE than not eating! As soon as a store opens finding some Pickle Juice (I don’t even like pickles🥴). Really hope it works.. I’ll let y’all know🙏🏽🫶🏽

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
