Hi, I just wanted to ask- I have had two c-sections and a hysterectemy and then later a tumor and ovaries taken out- everyone is talking about getting up and walking immediately - am I right to assume that this surgery will not be like the others - in that you dont fill like you are ripping in half when you stand up or in severe pain?

Hi, the incisions are way way smaller. I've seen RNY Gastric Bypass patients on youtube saying that when they had tummy tucks that was a lot more painful than their Weight Loss Surgery. RNY is a bigger op than VSG/GPS and a Tummy Tuck has to be a lesser deal than a c-section as they're not going through you abdominal muscle. So I'm sure you'll be just fine, as you've had more invasive surgeries and you came through them.

I didn't really walk much the same day as my op as I way too sleepy from the anesthetic, but I started doing some walking from day two.

I had no pain at all - i was so anxious to be up and walking. I think that walking was the best thing ever.

Good luck to you.

Walking is to speed up healing and release gas. We need to do it to get better.

I had 2 C-sections and gall bladder removal but the VSG was much more uncomfortable. I felt as it everything was so tight inside me, it was not pain but a very hard to describe discomfort. Later I figured it was due to the drain. As soon as it was removed I felt a great relief. That think was longer than a meter  I was shocked when they took it out and I could see how long the tube was. It clearly explained why I was feeling so "tight" and uncomfortable inside. But as I said, it was not pain but a strange discomfort.

I had my sleeve Tuesday of this week, and came home on Wednesday afternoon. I started walking about two hours after I got back to my room - even though I was groggy. The pain from the incisions is less than the gallbladder (traditional, not via lap), hysterectomy (bikini cut) and two other lap procedures I have had. The only pain is where the stomach is pulled through, and where the drain is installed. Once the drain was removed, that discomfort was over. Five days past surgery the incision where the stomach came through is still tender and bruised - but getting less each day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
