How is the bread situation? I am newly banded...but, I love port of subs/subway...can anyone tolerate any kind of breads?

I can eat bread quite easily. But I would struggle with Subway bread, we call that kind of bread (Subway, McDonalds buns) bowel cancer bread in this family, lol. Its so white and soft and doughy, that'd be sticky and hard to eat. Lucky I dont like those things anyway.

But ordinary wholemeal and wholegrain bread I can do, good fresh muffins I can eat but things like scones, donuts, I can eat them but they HURT going through the stoma, not worth the effort, and not nutritionally worth eating anyway.

I can also do rice and Pasta with no problem.

If I wanted a sub I would go out and buy some fresh long rolls and toast them first before I put the toppings on and toast them again to heat and melt the toppings. I could eat that if it were decent quality bread.

The closest thing to trouble I've had with bread is that when I eat very soft white bread, it goes down VERY slowly. It goes down, but very slow.

Generally, I try to stick with whole grains and I do eat subway, but I get the honey oat bread. I can't really eat the whole 6" sub, but I eat what satisfies me and am happy with that.

I cant do bread at all, It always gets stuck and the golfball feeling isnt worth it.So basically I dont eat bread at all.If I crave something like bread I eat Wassa crisps,it tastes good and does not give me the golball.lol

I can eat Pasta with no problems, havent tried rice yet.

It all depends on tight I am if I can eat bread or not. Some times I can very slowly eat about a 1/2 of a 6 inch subway sub if I'm not full, other times just a bite of a soft taco will set me of on a PB fit.

With my 1.75 cc fill I could eat bread, no problem, now that i'm at 2.0 cc I'm having a very hard time even getting down a few bites.

The liquid stage is proving a little difficult for me, and today, I ate a half slice of bread! Yikes! However, I'm even more alarmed that it went down with out a murmur from my stoma. I did soak the bread (sans crusts) in my very liquid mushroom Soup. In fact it was mushy. I've never been a big bread eater, but occasionally would eat some very dense multi-grain breads, that made me feel all warm and macro-natural or sumthin.

Anyway, I'm not going to beat myself up over that little ole half slice of bread. I've been doing very good so far.

I can't do regular bread at all! I have tried, it just won't go down and causes me a lot of pain! I like melba toast, wassa crisps, or certain types of crackers, but other than that -- NO WAY! Good luck on the journey! Terri

What about home made bread? How well does it / not go down? Is it any better or worse than ordinary bought bread?

We make wholegrain bread in our machine... ... unbanded I can't eat more than 2 slices (and I can eat like the proverbial horse! lol). It's very filling, I imagine once banded I won't be able to eat more than a couple of bites of the stuff...

I LOVE bread in all it's forms, and will find it hard to give up. As I am really the only bread addict in our house, I'm wondering if it's time to try and get the Datsun 120Y back that I traded to get the bread maker...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
