Hello All

Hi, all! My name's Bob and I just had my sleeve surgery on 2/2, about 3 weeks ago. I've been real obese for over a decade, as high as 475-500lbs at one time and drawing down to about 370ish before I started planning my surgery. With diabetes type 2, blood pressure, you name it, I had to do something. I want to raise a family with a my wife and be around, healthy and active, for her and my kids.

I had my surgery here in Columbia, SC at Lexington Medical Center, with Dr Antonetti of the Riverside Surgical Group. It went great, no problems, laproscopic, shrunk my liver enough thank goodness. The first week or Clear liquids was rough to get used to, especially watching my in-laws gorge on Pasta, pizza, and hoagies during the week. I literally had fits where I could do nothing but picture food (its texture, taste, and smell). Thankfully I made it to mashed potatoes, having dropped to 339 (pre-diet plus first week post-surgery).

So far, I'm hanging in there. I walk every morning, adding a little bit of time, and am now up to 20 min (my goal is an hour someday). I try to drink a lot of Water, though I'm not sure the 64 oz is enough for me. I actually put on a few pounds last week, and my nutritionist thinks it's due to carbs. I wonder if it was the sodium in the potatoes and I'm retaining Water. Or maybe muscle?

Anyhow, trying so hard not to obsess about the scale. This is a long-term process and I'm already developing many habits I only dream of doing (no soda, daily exercise, etc.). Great to be with you all!

Well first of all you need to stay away from potatoes..They are white carbs.. You cant stay away from all carbs you just have to get the right ones and control how much of them you get..complex carbs stay with you longer they are more healthy. Your doctor should have gave you a list of carbs to stay away from.. I do believe that if you cut down on your carbs more you will start flying the weight back off. I am staying around 50-75 carbs a day. So right now until I start eating more carbs I will be in keytosis. a constant state of burning fat.. I dont' know if this helps just my thoughts

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
