NewKat 1 Posted February 25, 2011 Has anyone been able to appeal the 6 month waiting period for surgery? Already had sleep study, (severe apnea), and have letters from 2 of my doctors. I am getting appointment for EDG tomorrow. These are tests that I needed anyway since I am having more problems with headaches, fatigue, GERD, etc. I have 2 policies, but one has total exclusion of gastric surgery. The other pays 80/20, but has 6 months supervised MD visits before approval. I don't think my health will hold out another 6 months. Will a letter do any good? Has anyone written personal letters to the insurance company? The more I try to get testing and jump through hoops, the more depressed I am getting. I have no clothes left to wear, though I have a closet full, I get up sick, go to bed sick, stay sick all day while trying to work. Any hope anyone could give me that I can get around this would cheer me greatly right now.
MommyTawnie 3 Posted February 25, 2011 If you can't make it the 6 months can you do the 3 months that most insurance companies allow if co-morbidities are present? I haven't heard of anyone just appealing before a claim was even sent in. As for the personal letter although it is a personal plead from you some insurance companies never read what's been writen in the letter. I wish you luck! I truely do I myself went through the 6 months supervised diet and was approved 10 days after submititng..
M2G 1,836 Posted February 25, 2011 Some health insurances do have a 3 month fast track plan. I know my PCP said he had someone who had to do all the 6 month stuff and his health declined greatly in that time period. And to make matters worse, the man was denied and had to start all over. I hope the letter does the trick for you. I had to wait the 6 month (and so did my husband) but if your health is in serious jeopardy I think you should ask for it to be waived. Good luck!
