ribearty 544 Posted January 30, 2014 I am a band to sleeve revision. I am 3 months out now. I have no regrets and I was 56 1/2 years young when I had my surgery in October. Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery. 1 Chelenka reacted to this
Chelenka 827 Posted January 30, 2014 Hi 50's!! I am having revision surgery from LapBand. To Sleeve & I am so sad that I need this second surgery I was doing so good with the band until I started having horrible reflux & pain. I was worried then @ 50, now I am having thoughts of being too old to take this risk again 4 years later. Really scared here Dee Hi Dee and welcome. I can understand your feelings about going thru another surgery but it sounds like it's your best option unless you just have the band removed and see how you do, but that's still another surgery. I don't think your age isn't really an issue as long as you are overall in good health. I was 53 when I had my surgery. Otherwise, I would hope your surgeon wouldn't suggest it. However, I had a lot of reflux (which I had pre-surgery) for the first 3-4 months. It's much less now but sometimes acts up. I was told if it didn't get better the fix was a sleeve to RNY revision surgery. I wouldn't want to do that unless absolutely necessary. So I think you might want to research a bit more about the best option for yourself in terms of dealing with the reflux issue. All the best to you.

Indigo1991 1,612 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Dee Nothing vain about wanting to be alive for as long as possible and live a healthy, good quality life. I was 51 and a half when I was sleeved nine months ago and it's like being reborn. The second half of my life is going to be the life I always should have had... Good luck, all of us 50s are here with you! Edited January 30, 2014 by Indigo1991 4 terilynne1966, kltklass, Chelenka and 1 other reacted to this

I just want to be healthy. Thanks to all of you who've gone before and are willing to light the path & speak encouragement. I just want to be healthy. Thanks to all of you who've gone before and are willing to light the path & speak encouragement. Goodness knows I need it!!!Good luck in your journey .. I was Sleeved in June and it was the best thing i chosen to do with no regrets. I lost well over 200lbs so far, I have about 30 lbs to go on my goal weight, it still coming off but slowed down a bit, I have tons of energy, no more c-pap and Im off of most my meds. Just stick with the program and choose wisely what passes by your lips, but this is a life time change. Don't even start drinking soda, diet included, it's everyone's down fall that leads back into bad habits. I drink no carbonation of any kind but i do drink lots of coffee with cream and Splenda . Watch your labels get nothing more than 6 grams of sugar, Plain Greek yogurt is a exception and make sure you incorporate it in your diet, make sure you get in your Vitamins . I use Walmart Children chewable twice a day ( cheaper) and B-6 sublingual . Make sure you get in a least 75+g of Protein in. Try to get it in with food, but having a Protein Shake in between meals are fine. Stick with 3 meals a day, not two or 5, weigh your food, it should be 4 oz about a 1/2 cup and get in your Water and walk at least 15min a day. I'm sure I'm missing things but i reply all questions. There has been time that I ate over a cup of food and I wasn't comfortable and the food felt like it was in my throat, so its like a kid touching a hot stove, you learn overtime. I had 1 dumping, I had watermelon , it was soooo good that I had one bite too many ( hot stove effect) never want to do that again. Well good luck and soon you will be called skinny and turn some heads your way..good-luck 2 KajunGumbo and LDallas reacted to this

I'm happy I gave up carbonated beverages a while back, and glad I can keep my coffee. I will remember your hit stove stories And hopefully wont have too many of my own. PS I love my ipad, but hate typing on it. Makes me seem worse grammar and spelling than I already have. 1 mitz reacted to this
Margie14 31 Posted February 4, 2014 I'm 55 and still waiting (severe frustration) to hear from my insurance company. I've done all my precerts and it seems like this last bit is taking forever. I hoping to have the sleeve soon.

Margie14 31 Posted February 5, 2014 Thanks for the kind words Mitz! I was working really hard and gave up soda, caffeine, and sugar. It seems that I've been back peddling a bit on the sweets (guess I'm in a bit of a funk). I've actually gained a couple pounds. I've even tried to not drink during meals...that is going to be the hardest thing for me to get over I think. I have suffered from depression in the past and it seems like lately I'm heading back into it. My coordinator kind of tee'd me off by waiting over a week and a half before filing my paperwork, which did not help. I hear the surgery can put you down in the dumps for a while too and I'm worried about that. Plus, the end of March my husband is deplying to Afghanistan for a year so I kinda wanted to get it done before he left and at least be feeling better. But, I do love to see everyone's success and it gives me so much hope. I'm hoping to be a new woman when I see him again...that is if the insurance approves me! 1 mitz reacted to this

Hi Peg, I was a depressive sort for years. I feel so much better now that I have my sleeve. I did a lot of self deprecation because I couldn't stick to a diet or find any happiness in life feeling like a failure. With the sleeve, at least initially, my appetite changed and food stopped being a battle for me. The weight came off quickly and easily and I my energy was really high. It seems like for the first time in the last 25 years, I feel like I'm really AOK! i'm still getting used to my eyes, that now seem to be much bigger than my stomach and because I have such a history of a bad relationship with food, I am learning to be patient as I make choices and be good to myself as I walk forward in this deal. I hope this surgery makes you happy and doesn't put you in the dumps. Its been an amazing shot in the arm for me and I love my new sleeved life. 2 mitz and Margie14 reacted to this
Margie14 31 Posted February 10, 2014 Thanks SG, Your words of encouragement really help. I did find out today that my insurance approved me! (wooo hoooo!!!) Now I'm just worried about the preop diet and if I'll be able to tough it out! My surgery coordinator was supposed to get back with me today but did not. She said she had to check the website for the precert letter, but she never called back. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep bugging her.
cschmaltz 1 Posted February 25, 2014 Hi I am 57 and had the sleeve December 5. I have lost 30 lbs and been stalled and frustrated. Also had a severe case of vertigo last Thursday which might be caused by dehydration. Ever heard of this?
