The healthiest snacks...

Recommended Posts

Yesterday the fam and I were on the road most of the day. They stopped at Burger King to get food while I sat and watched them eat. So when I did start to get hungry, we stopped at a gas station in the attempts to find a Protein bar or snack bar of sorts. Well, there I was in the gas station for 5 minutes it seemed checking the nutritional value of the ALL snack bars there. Most of them were crazy high in sugar like 25-30grams. I noticed that all the nutrition values were not so readily to get at...being I had to flip the seam of the packing up on all of them to read this info.

The healthiest ones I found were the South Beach Diet ones at 12 g Protein, 5g fat and 5g sugar, and very yummy. They were all the way on the bottom shelf. Interesting enough, shows how as a society we eat with our eyes and sugar addiction.

The highest sugar ones were on the on the top shelf... sigh.... blink.gif

Very true and very VERY sad. I know better than to travel any lengths of time without something healthy(er) to munch on, which my easy go-to is usually turkey Jerky. One ounce will fill me and keep me for a few hours until I can get to a healthier option.

Anyway... I just wanted to say I've been stuck in this situation so many times!! (Which is why I know better, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still happen)... and it is incredibly difficult to find *anything* worth putting in my mouth! The sugar in everything is hideous. Even in so many of the products we think are healthier for us... is just not the case.

I'm an avid label reader here! :)

I love the South Beach Protein Bars.. They are small snack size bars with lots of protein. More then most other bars!! I keep them stocked in my cabinet just incase I was something sweet.. I have tried other bars and none of them are as tasty as the South Beach. I to catch myself reading every protein/snack bar I pick up.. I refuse to eat anything with more then 5-8 grams of sugar a serving..

Why sit there and watch them eat at burger king? Get a small fries to munch on and marvel at the fact that they can eat 10x as much as you can (and probably finish before you too).

BK Whopper Jnr without mayo comes in at 330. I've not tried fast food yet since my op, but I'd probably remove half the bread to get the carbs and calories down. See here for further details http://eatthis.mensh...#sharetagsfocus

Hey that's not too bad... the only thing I can think of though is that it's best for me not to indulge on Fast food really, it's so filled with things that get my synapses to working overtime. Even eating low cals I'm destined to crave it again and again. Like Cookies, once I have one I will be craving it's devilish self for days!

OT: How about this?

Whopper w/ Medium Fries

1,110 calories

62 g fat (15.5 g saturated fat, 1 g trans)

1,650 mg sodium

Yeah I used to be able to eat that and then some...:)

I have ordered a wataburger jr before plain and just ate the meat. It was quick it was there and I had everything else taken off of it so I don't think it was to bad. That's why when you travel "like I'm doing this weekend" You make sure you pack Snacks that are healthy and only stop at places you know will have something you can eat.. Even if you have to stop at a sit down restraunt for a bit do it.. It's got to be better then watching everyone else indulge on things you once loved.. Plus you are less likely to eat it quickly like you would in the car..

I did munch on two fries.... we went inside to eat so the tray liner was advertising 6 meal combos for under 650 calories. I thought, "Oh my, one meal is my daily limit." Like Diva said, I though about getting a just a grilled chicken patty, but it was $2.50 for one patty and I think the taste of the grill would get me wanting a whopper again. LOL. Can't have just one....

When my family must have BK, or McD's or something of that nature, I just take a portion (2 bites) of what ever hubby is eating minus all the extra crap. So if he is eating a Whopper, then I have 2 bites of the meat, a grilled chk sand. 2 bites of the meat. That is usually enough to hold me over until we reach our destination. I also get a hot tea or some other unsweetened beverage. One time my son actually peeled the coating off of 2 chicken McNuggets for me! how sweet, but they were horrible! And to think when I was 15 and worked there, i would eat them everyday!!! UGH!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
