Recommended Posts

I have BCBS of Texas and I was told that morbid obesity is a exclusion in my policy. My question is: Is there a way around tis exclusion? I have tons on medical conditions.

does it specifically say that surgery for morbid obesity or any care for morbid obesity is is excluded? I know mine does with UHC and there is no way around it.

There wasn't for me. The language in my policy was very clear, no treatment for weight loss, including WLS. No way around it no matter what my health was.

Me too. Written exclusion that was added while I waited for my sleep study.

There is no way around it. It is not technically discrimination since a provider can choose NOT to cover anything they choose.

Wheetsin explained it very well once. Your insurance can choose not to cover X-rays, that doesn't mean that they are discriminating against those with bones.

I found a great surgeon in MX.

Dre, whether there is any way around the exclusion depends on your state's laws. But if you work for a very large company typically they write their own policies with the carrier and it's done very deliberately. Unless you think you can persuade your company to change its policies you are likely out of luck. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
