Luanne 32 Posted February 23, 2011 I had my self-pay VSG done in Mexico Dec 9, 2009. My doctor has wrote the orders for my 3 month followup Baruium GI and blood work ~ should I get preapproval from my insurance company (Signa) or hope it will slide thru? What have others did? Rootman 1,101 Posted February 24, 2011 I didn't get "approved" because it's pretty much sure to be a slam dunk that they will NOT approve. It is VERY likely that they will NOT assume responsibility for another out of plans doctor's proceedure. You would be asking them to assume liability on something that has a fair amount of risk. Call and ask them directly.
Luanne 32 Posted March 18, 2011 3-12-11 UPDATE: My doctor ordered my 3 month Upper GI and blood work which all turned out great and my INSURANCE PAID for it, no questions asked. Thanks for posting this. When I talked to a customer service rep he said it depended how the claim was written. Most doctors won't refer to the surgery if you mention it migt be a bad idea, and a barium swallow won't raise much suspicion since it's used for all kinds of diagnostic reasons. Basically if he orders it, it's going to go through. 1 Luanne reacted to this
