I have been reading posts for days now. You all make me laugh and really inspire me. I have been researching the info to get the band. I have been heavy all my life and I really want to move past it. I am 37, I have a wonderful, very supportive husband and 5 kids. 4 boys and my youngest,a little sweetie girl. I want to teach them better than I have about taking care of their bodies and finding their self worth by whats on the inside, not the out! But thats hard to do when your own brain won't let you think that about your self! Ya know??

I am looking seriously at Mexico. The price is so much better than here in the states and from all the information I have recieved, and read, it is a state of the art place and the Dr's are great. I can't wait to get it all planned and done. I am thrilled to go to a place( this website) with all the encouragement and support a gal could need. I look foward to making some friends along the journey. Wish me luck!!

Hi and WELCOME!

What a Blessed woman - to have 5 kids!!!

I know what you mean about teaching your kids better eating habits through YOUR journey. For the most part, Id say that my family does eat better/healthier then pre-banding days.

I have 3 kids and I learned a long time ago that it was easier (and cheaper) to fix home cooked foods rather then fast food. So there wasnt a big change in that area. The changes that DID happen were that I try to fix more veggies now - and eating more chicken. And we grill more now, then before.

Oh, and we have lots of Mexico patients here with lots of success stories!

If you need anything, just ask! Good luck with everything.

Hi and Welcome~

I got banded June 2, 06- 3 weeks ago in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. He's wonderful and I and my husband were so impressed with the facilities. Half the price than it was here in Phoenix. I Good luck and just go for it. I'm so glad I did.

First week was hard. I started solids today. I hope I didn't eat too much. Does anyone have any feed back on this?

I'm still learning about how to post. I hope this works.

Julia

mcteri, WELCOME!!!

Glad you finally joined up! I can really understand where you are coming from. I only have one little girl who is almost three. I want to set a positive healthy example for her so that she will never know the torture of being fat in public school. Lucky for her, Dad is a long, lithe, Danish thing. She takes after him so much already.

If you have nay questions about MX, PM (private message) me and I will let you know about my very positive experience.

Thank you all for relplying. This actually was my get away yesterday. Two kids have the flu and one is COVERED in poison ivy!! Ahhh the joys!!

Here is a question for you. We eat really healthy. We cook everything from scratch, grind our own wheat for bread and stuff. Eat lots of chicken, not too much red meat.. you know the drill. But how do you get your KIDS to want to eat it? You think with 5 I could have figured it out. But so far, with the oldest one, it is not working. What do you all do? Plus he is from my previous marraige, so when he goes to his dad's he eat anything. I am sorry.. I talk to much!! hheehe.

Here is a link to a thread several of us contributed to months ago talking about Childhood Obesity. You may find something worth trying in this thread.

I have the hardest time with the same issues - and with my oldest. He hates anything healthy. Ive actually paid him money for taking a bite of something - for every bite he earned more money (I love bribery). It had to be a decent size bite, not a couple of grains of rice on each spoonful thus making it into 100 bites - smart kid, you know?

YOU may have better ideas. If so, please share em. We need all the help we can get!

Hang in there with the sick kiddos!

:clap2: Hello:

My name is Jeanne. I was just banded on Monday June 19th. I am 51 and heavy all my life. I was banded 25 years ago with an old fashion band. I lost 80 lbs with that but the band crimped and became horribly unbearable to live with. Couldn't drink or anything. I had it for 12 years until I had it removed. Now here I am again. Can't believe I'm doing this again. It is really an adjustment in life. I hope all goes well. My beginning weight is 300 lbs and I'm 5'8" tall. I can't wait until I lose this weight. My arthritis and back are really bad. I need feedback from you guys. Help me be strong. I know everyone on here needs strong words of encouragment. We can do it. Write me back. I would love to share with anyone. God Bless--------jeanne in Houston

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
