Will this go away???

Recommended Posts

Since my surgery I cannot stand to drink any kind of Crystal Light or flavored water, I tried Isopure Apple Mellon and I had acid reflux in all day, I have to take Pepcid AC a day sometimes two times a day to be able to eat and get my Water in. All I can drink is milk and plain water. Does this ever go away?

The pepcid is only going to treat the symptoms of reflux because it works differently than a PPI such as Nexium, Prilosec, Protonix. It's an H2blocker so it doesn't stop the acid production. You might want to talk to your doctor about taking a true PPI so you can get resolution.

I never dealt with true reflux because I caught it soon enough by going on Prilosec 20mg once daily.

I had issues with crystal light or any type of sweetners when I was first sleeved. It did go away after a month. I still prefer Water but I can use the propel drink tubes that is not bad.

Funny I had the opposite! I could not drink plain Water, it hurt my stomach! I am now 7 weeks out and can drink water with no problem. YES it's temporary! Drink what feels good. I did better with room temperature liquids. Good Luck!!!!

It sounds like you need a better ppi.. Explain to the doctor waht is going on and see if he can prescribe you something different.. I am taking Nexium and it is a god send.. Over time yes it will get better, but for now try sipping some hot tea 30 minutes after eating. I was told alot of the reflux is caused by mucus pushing the acid back up. The hot tea will help break it down.. Best of luck to you!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
