Stomach holding less food?

I am 14 weeks post-op today and it seems that my stomach is holding less food then it did just a few weeks ago? I am been sick for the past week and haven't been eating/drinking as much as I normally do but now that I'm feeling better I know I need to get Protein in and some more calories. I have been able to eat 2 eggs and 1 piece of toast as a meal for WEEKS now and now I can't. I have tried twice this week and I'm only able to get 1/2 piece of toast and 1 egg and I'm FULL! Is it normal for you to go back and forth on the amount you can hold?

Your stomach probably shrank a little bit when you were sick and not eating as much.

It could also be that your stomach is still swollen from being sick. When the stomach swells, it doesn't get bigger--it actually gets a smaller lumen, or inside diameter. Think of it this way--the tissue of the stomach swells to the inside as well as out. So the opening inside your sleeve would be reduced by swelling. Give it a few more days to get back to normal. I bet you will be able to eat what you could before.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
