oliviam 3 Posted February 21, 2011 So this is the first day that not eating is really starting to get to me. I made spaghetti for my family tonight and I swear I wanted just one bite of the bolognese sauce. I can't imagine liquids only for the next two weeks! Has anyone started mushies earlier than they were supposed to?
Foxbins 625 Posted February 21, 2011 I think you are on a slippery slope here...it looks like your surgery was five days ago. Although I had a VSG, I am sure that your stomach is swollen and irritated from the surgery. Tomato sauce is acidic and might hurt. Please keep to your surgeon's directions, you paid a lot of money for your surgery and don't want to mess it up or harm your health, I'm sure. Drink some more Water or broth and do something to distract yourself. Good Luck!
courious 0 Posted February 21, 2011 It's normal to want to have "one bite" when you have to fix dinner for the family. Be sure that you have your Protein and sip on it while preparing their meal. Ask that they do the serving, clean up & put left overs away. You are already doing a lot by cooking so soon after surgery! Reread your information you got from doctor. Remember how you felt when you were desperate at your weight that made this decision a reality. Be easy on yourself. It takes a while to adjust. You will get to eat again. This is just temporary. Baby steps. I make 100% whey Protein shakes. Freeze chopped banana. Blend on ice setting with 1/2 c non fat milk, then ad a little crushed ice to it. Some shaking or stirring inbetween. STIR in non fat low sugar yogurt and Protein powder. Finally blend on smoothie setting. Yeap, share with kids that is mines new Breakfast. Even hubby drinking it. I hated cooking Breakfast. Now I am the best breakfast maker Egg flower Soup...dr. said ok. You can buy or make it is quick. Low sodium organic chicken broth. Mix 1 egg, stir into boiling broth stirring only in ONE direction for 1 minute. Eat like that or add small amount of PLAIN Protein mix once off burner. In the resturants they ad corn starch, I don't. Good job posting!
oliviam 3 Posted February 21, 2011 Thanks for the encouragement ladies, and the recipe! Sounds yummy! I don't think I would be feeling this way if I wasn't having to cook but alas, I do. I am going to be 7 days post op tomorrow.
genepha 47 Posted February 21, 2011 Olivia, Are you eating Soups? Soups saved me the first week. I blended or strained the big chunks but I highly recommend soups, all kinds but try to choose higher Protein ones. If you have a Vons or a super market that has pre-made soups, use those. My husband bought a lot of different types of chicken soups for me and I added unflavored Protein Powder to it also. I went out to lunch with friends 10 days after surgery and was able to order chicken tortilla Soup. Sounds like you need a night with no cooking or buy pre-made food for your family. Good luck - you'll get through it. genepha
