A long journey that has just started - Feb 18

I have been overweight the majority of my life (38 years). I grew up as the fat kit that no one wanted on their team or was picked last. I outgrew my weight issues during high school and joined the Army. After getting out it was difficult to maintain the level of discipline to maintain my weight. As life goes on I sprung up in weight and have been battling my weight since then. After seeing the amazing transformation my mother has had from gastric bypass (6+ years ago) I have always wanted to get surgery.

My surgery journey started last May when I was living in Boston and was referred to a bariatric surgeon. This was a dream that was going to happen, finally. After going through the pre-op appointments I moved to Guadalajara (July 2010) for medical school. I had every intention continuing my journey, but being able to get the psyc appointments scheduled became a nightmare. I started my diet and exercise and started to lose weight while researching having the surgery in Mexico. After saving up the money and having lost 50 pounds I thought it was time to schedule the appointments to meet the doctors.

The beginning of February I scheduled to visit the two doctor offices that performed the surgeries in Guadalajara. I chose my doctor and scheduled the surgery for February 18th. This is the second time that I have had surgery so I kind of knew what to expect at the hospital, none the less I was a little apprehensive and doctor’s staff did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. I did my pre-op appointments on the day of surgery. Each doctor came in and interviewed me and then at 9am they took me down stairs for my procedure.

I’m on my third day post op and I have slight pain in my abdomen that is not requiring meds. I haven’t had any major issues yet and hope it stays that way.

If you have any questions about doing surgery in Guadalajara Mexico please contact me.

Hi there! Congratulations on your new sleeve! I had my surgery a day before you on Feb 17th. I was just wondeing how much Water and Protein you're getting in daily. Right now I'm averaging aroun 30oz of water and maybe 10oz of protein. Beign so fresh from surgery it is just SO hard to get anything in so I was just wondering where you are with things.

I have read that a lot of people have trouble getting their fluids in. I have not had any trouble getting in the 8 glasses a day. In the mornings I have been having nausea but it goes away. It takes all day but I followed one thing I read here is to always have a glass in your hand. :) It takes all day, but I get it done. I have also been able to get all of the protein in as well. The only time I experienced any trouble is when I was using Milk to make the shakes.

Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
